5.0 out of 5 stars Effective, safe, easy to use
This is a fantastic product. I used it for many years on my old smallholding and now in a far more manageable domestic garden. I have small children and keep chickens and cats. I am concerned not to cause them any harm while still controlling the slugs. 2.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work here!
Many people have reviewed this product and said it's great, it really works! How bad was the slug problem, what type of soil? This does not work where we live, there are thousands of slugs and snails and the soil has a lot of clay... not the right conditions. This product only works on loose soils with a low concentration of slugs, I purchased a second packet from a local...

This is a fantastic product. I used it for many years on my old smallholding and now in a far more manageable domestic garden. I have small children and keep chickens and cats. I am concerned not to cause them any harm while still controlling the slugs. Even though many slug pellets say they are not harmful to children and pets I feel far happier using nemotodes which are a natural slug predator rather than a chemical product.

You keep it in the sealed packet in the fridge until its ready to use (it looks like a microwaveable meal packet!). Once you open it it consists of a fine dusty powder that is the dormant, microscopic nematodes. You follow the simple directions for diluting it to the right strength and simply pour it over your garden in a watering can. Don't use it when its too cold or when the nemotodes may dry out quickly and, hey presto, in a few days no more slugs! No unsightly and worrisome blue pellets around your garden either.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars How to kill dozens at once, 22 July 2013

I am a new user of Nematodes but bought because my neighbour had been using them and reorted great results. Well having now tried them I will say that the slug and snail population was dramatically reduced. I will definitely be using this again next season. in the meantime, I must share you with an amazing slug discovery I made by accident last night!

Yesterday I gave the dog some watermelon still in the skin in the garden and forgot to take in the leftovers. Later that evening I realised I had forgotten to pick the days raspberrys - so not wanting them to attarct 'undesirables' in the night, made way to the garden armed with torch.

I had just stepped onto the lawn when I was met with the most gruesome sight I will ever see. a mass of massive, fat slimy slugs writhing around in obvious esctasy at their find....the left over watermelon.

....Inside each slice there were dozens, and I mean dozens of the horrid slimy critters!! So great was the allure of the watermelon that several more were making their way towards each of the the discarded skins.

I could hardly believe my eyes! Now being a lady with a squemish nature, I was faced with the problem..what on earth do I do now? I mean picking up the odd slug with chopsticks (my choice of garden tool here) is one thing, but a slug festival with hundreds of the devils is quite another. I couldnt leave them there - as they would go on to munch my newly planted liatris, and ather assorted delights.

After much head scratching I got one of my dogs poo bags and scooped them up en masse. Disgusting as it was I took great delight at easing them into a nice hot salty spa bath. I'm assuming they enjoyed it very much because they never wanted to come out.

Anyway good people. Get your nematodes. But in the meantime, if you want to attract them away from your seedlings and prize plants and dispose of several hundred en masse - simply save your watermelon skins with a little melon still on it and place strategically around your flower beds (away from the plants). Go out later with your torch and you will never again use beer (what a waste!!), or upturned grapefruit halves.

My only dilemea now...how to dispose of the bodies! Ewwww

If you try this and found this tip helpful - please click the box that says it was useful - In any case, I'd love to hear how you got on.

Happy hunting! :)

During 2007 my vegetables were decimated by slugs. I tried egg shells, copper wire - everything. In 2008 I tried Nemaslug and what a difference. I shall be buying it again this Spring.

This is the second year I have used nemaslug. Last year I discovered it late spring and after using the number of slugs in the garden were few and far between. This year I started using it mid march as per instructions on the packet and applied just before it started raining one evening. The only slugs I have seen have been two jelly like slugs! Very dead! The first was definitely a slug as it was only just looking like a white jelly (yuk!) and then I found a clearer slug shaped jelly last night on the garden. The birds are safely eating these and my plants are thriving :D

Have recommended this to friends and family - especially those with pets as its harmless to them and wildlife

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Stuff, 1 Mar 2010

I have used this now for four years and have found it works every time. Be sure to use it to the instruction on the packet. As noted before it needs to go in the ground just as the weather is warming up (about mid March) and the slugs are beginning to surface with the dampness. (It is a good idea to apply it whilst it is acually raining as the rain helps wash it down and the slugs are on their way up). Therefore it is best not too order it too early as it only has a short fridge life.
I have recommended this to many people and they have all found it works.

I've been using Nemasys for a couple of years and it certainly has made a huge difference to my garden. Hardly see slugs at all now and my plants have a fighting chance of blooming fully instead of being munched on first appearance above the soil. Regular usage definitely breaks the cycle - being only a stones throw away from the local allotments, I used to get all their slimy visitors too!
I also recommend Nemasys vine weevil killer, had a real problem with these pests last year and using Nemasys saved all of my plants from the destructive grubs - no sign of them this year. Fighting these problems with their natural predators means no chemicals, so we can eat what we grow without fear of growing another head.
Also, if any of your kids have a microscope - have a look at the funky wiggly nematodes under it - heh cool:)

This product is amazing and really works - if you apply it as it states on the packet. I have used it for several years now and when I use it I don't have slugs and when I forget or get lazy - everything gets eaten by slugs. Its great stuff.

Great - I followed the instructions carefully and after a few days no more plants getting eaten (applied early May in Bristol UK). 4 weeks later its still working. I'll re-apply as suggested at 6 weeks.

Many people have reviewed this product and said it's great, it really works! How bad was the slug problem, what type of soil? This does not work where we live, there are thousands of slugs and snails and the soil has a lot of clay... not the right conditions. This product only works on loose soils with a low concentration of slugs, I purchased a second packet from a local garden centre who order it from the company that makes it.... there was a slip of paper inside stating that the product does not work on clay soils or where the infestation is severe. This slip of paper was absent from the 'Nemaslug' branded packets, essential product information omitted in order to sell a (sometimes) useless product! Check your soil before you buy! Or kill the slugs with more unfriendly methods before you plant and then use this once your veg are in... as long as you've got loose soil with no clay!!
