Book Description

15 April 2014
Andrea Pirlo is one of the finest footballers of his generation - a World Cup and Champions League winning playmaker who has redefined his position at the base of midfield, and one of the most deadly free-kick takers the game has known. This is his story, in his words. It is written with a level of humour and insight which confound his image as a dead-eyed assassin on the field of play. All the big names are in there: Lippi, Ancelotti, Conte, Maldini, Shevchenko, Seedorf, Buffon, Kaka, Nesta, Balotelli, Costacurta, Gattuso, Berlusconi and Ronaldo ("the real one"). But they're not always in their work clothes. We hear Berlusconi playing the piano and telling "various types of jokes" at Milan's training ground. We see Pirlo and Daniele De Rossi drawing Nesta's ire as they take him on a mystery tour of the German countryside in a hire car days before a World Cup semi-final. And we smell the aftermath of Filippo Inzaghi's graphically-described pre-match routine. With the 2014 World Cup being his last international tournament, this is a timely salute to a special talent who may yet have one final chapter left to write.

About the Author

Andrea Pirlo has been the playmaker for each of Italy s big three clubs Inter, Milan and Juventus. He has won the Champions League and the World Cup. He reinvented his position, playing deeper than any playmaker before him and using a wider passing range. He is also one of the best free-kick takers in the history of football.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice easy read 22 April 2014
By James
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Can't really fault this book. The only reason that I'm giving it 4 stars and not 5 is because I was hoping for something a little more substantial; felt like he could have expanded on certain bits. I read this book on my Kindle in about 5 hours, which would make it perfect for a holiday read.

There are some excellent stories that Pirlo tells in the book and I liked the way he addresses some of the bigger issues around in football at the moment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and Funny 22 April 2014

A lovely insight into a class footballer and now it seems a class act off the pitch too. Some funny stories about other stars he has played with. Enjoyable enough that I read it in one sitting. Would recommend it to you too.... Unless you happen to be klass jan huntelaar then you might want to skip a chapter.
