Product Description

In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the centre of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years--and it’s meant billions for OmniCorp’s bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it.

When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman), a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.

3.0 out of 5 stars THE ILLUSION OF FREE WILL 23 Feb 2014
By The Movie Guy TOP 500 REVIEWER
    Format:Blu-ray
Do I even have to mention the plot? The movie has been updated for modern times. The idea of security vs freedom/constitution is not really a debate in this film. The debate centers around using robots for a more effective police state. The film opens with the liberation of Iran using drones and robots and goes on to question, "Why not domestic use?"

I did have some simple plot issues. The robot aspect was made in China. Alex/Robocop is used in Detroit, but when he goes back to the shop, the shop is suddenly in Detroit.

Alex's plea to "kill me" once he lost his limbs reminded me of "Johnny Got His Gun" but the film never returned to that theme.

Samuel L. Jackson plays a TV newscaster who favors the Bots and has some bleeped out words. Is it as good as the original? Does it matter? The plot was not as interesting as Asylum's "Android Cop" but the overall production was better.

Good mindless popcorn entertainment. Not weighed down with theme. No sex or nudity. IMDB claims one f-bomb which I missed.

    3 1/2 stars

    4.0 out of 5 stars First-Rate Reboot! 11 Feb 2014
    Format:Blu-ray
I grew up with the original Robocop film. I've always loved it - the great action, the wonderful swipes at consumerism and yuppie culture and the beating heart of the film that is Peter Weller. I was as sceptical and as annoyed as many people out there when I heard a re-boot (re-make, re-imagining - whatever!) was in the works, but was more than pleasantly surprised when I went to see it. It is a vastly different film from the original. While the central concept remains the same, different themes are explored and in great depth. Sure, it is nowhere near as violent or gory, but it doesn't need to be. The action is brief but well executed and the performances from the leads are all top-notch. There are enough nods to the original (including certain line-readings and a hint of the original score over the main-title) but they are not over-used. This is clearly trying to be it's own film - and it succeeds beautifully.

4.0 out of 5 stars Why is America so robophobic? 13 Feb 2014
By Mr. R. W. Graham VINE VOICE
    Format:Blu-ray
Like a lot of people, i groaned when i heard that Robocop, a classic 18 certificate adults only scifi action film was getting a modern remake and getting a 12a certificate making it suitable for kids just to sell extra tickets like the recent Total Recall remake and last Die Hard film. But, somewhat unexpectedly, much to my surprise and like Total Recall, the new family friendly Robocop is actually a pretty enjoyable remake! It's the near future and Detroit cop Alex Murphy is blown up by a car bomb and left for dead and brought back as Robocop by Omnicorp who want to replace the police and armed forces with robots. Murphy then sets out to solve his own murder by going after the drug dealer responsible. Yes the over the top cartoonish violence has gone and so has the satire that made the original such a hit but in its place is some dark humour and questions about what it is that devides men from machines. that and a good cast make the remake a pleasant surprise. Joel Kinnaman is fine as the new Robocop and is well supported by Abbie Cornish as his wife, Michael Keaton as the head of Omnicorp, Gary Oldman as the scientist that creates Robocop and the film is stolen by Samuel L Jackson as a tv talk show host. In any other original scifi film this would be a fine cast and there are some good though toned down action scenes. To tell the truth Robocop has been toned down for kids since the dire Robocop 3 and tv series so this toned down reboot shouldn't really be that much of a shock and while not as good as the classic original 1987 film it's at least better than the 2 sequels and tv shows that followed it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pointless Inferior Remake 11 Feb 2014
    By timelord007 TOP 1000 REVIEWER
    Format:Blu-ray
THIS IS A REVIEW OF THE MOVIE ONLY & NOT THE BLU RAY AS IT NOT YET BEEN RELEASED.

    Running time 118 minutes,12a.

    Trivia.
1)Micheal Keaton & Gary Oldman have both featured in two separate Batman Franchises as Michael Keaton played Batman in the two Tim Burton movies while Gary Oldman was Commissioner Jim Gordon in Christopher Nolans Dark Knight Trilogy..
2)Jessica Alba, Kate Mara & Keri Russell all autioned for Ellen Murphy.
3)Michael Fassbender was considered for Robocop.

    Review.

In the new near future of 2028 a husband, Father & Detroit police officer Alex Murphy is critically injured when his car explodes.

The multinational Omnicorp corporation see this as a ample opportunity to build a part man part machine police officer the name as Robocop.

The Omnicorp corporation wish to capitalise on Robocop & see there share prices rocket in creating billions as Murphy will be the first of many cyborgs created by Omnicorp as there aim is for a Robocop to be in every town & city worldwide.

As Murphy returns to the crime ridden streets of Detroit he must face human issues of who he has now become & the effect it has on his emotions that are conflicted within him & can he still be a husband & father & honest cop?

    Timelord Thoughts.

I loved the 1987 Robocop as Director Paul Verhoeven directed a fantastic sci-fi hardcore violent political satire movie that at the heart of the movie had a great story about a former cop who becomes conflicted with emotions about his past life.
