Nikka From the Barrel' 50cl

Quite remarkable. Definitely not styled on a 'scotch whiskey' - this is very powerful and rich, after dinner sipping; perhaps with a nod towards a bourbon or even armagnac. Despite the strength its smooth enough to sip neat, with a finish that goes on and on. Sugared almonds, rich barley, the faintest hint of smoke, vanilla oak, damp fern or bracken.

At 50Cl and 6" tall its ideal to pack in your suitcase when working away.

July 2103 update: on 4th bottle - perhaps Nikka are cutting short maturity time because much more burn & sweetness, bourbon oak is very faint. Shame.

The smell is quite citrus like and floral, I found myself picking the glass up just for a sniff. The taste is very smooth even without a touch of water yet packs a nice punch with a great aftertaste, you can definitely taste the bourbon in this one which isn't a bad thing even though I am not really a bourbon drinker..

Being Scottish and enjoying a nice Scotch I thought I would venture into Japanese whisky with this one being the first, I can honestly say it won't be my last, going to order a Suntory of some sort once this bad boy runs out, which won't be long. A fine whisky I would highly recommend..

Brought as a present, person let me try a glass, a very smooth whisky. even might buy a bottle my self.

The whisky itself is great for a blend. Though I prefer yamazaki. However the 'glass gift set' is a complete misnomer. I got a bottle. That's surely normal. Or is every bottle of wine now a glass gift set? Amazon's solution was to send it back. So change the title then Amazon.

I had this after the Nikka 'black' - which I preferred, finding it more complex. It's interesting being a Japenese cask strength, but I couldn't get many flavors, even with a drop o' water. quite smooth considering the a.b.v.

Somewhere between an oaky highland malt and the caramel of the best bourbon, Nikka whisky is unique and really, really tasty.

Unbelievably smooth with a long finish, SUPERB!! I love Whiskey but this is one of the best I have ever tasted.

I buy my husband a different whisky every Xmas to ring the changes, and this one is superb. It's expensive as it's only a 50cl bottle, but it's very good. A sweeter taste if you like that, and nothing like the Islay whisky that tastes of bandages dipped in TCP.

What a great treat.....really lovely drop. I am now a convert to Japanese whisky! Delicious! I hope to be trying more brands soon.
