5.0 out of 5 stars Great - but don't buy this on its own
The MotionPlus add-on expands the Wii by detecting rotational as well as straight-line motion - enabling new styles of gameplay. Games like Table Tennis and SwordPlay in Wii Sports Resort would not be possible without it. However, it makes no difference at all to games that were not specifically programmed to support it.

Therefore there's no reason to buy this...

3.0 out of 5 stars Designed for 'Specific' games; NOT older ones!
I'd just like to point out that the Wii Motion plus accessory is designed specifically for brand new games that make use of the 1:1 motion seeking technology in the unit.

It is NOT designed to improve the motion seeking of older games that have been released. This is because the technology is different; the Wii Remote on it's own is merely a giro that 'guesses'...

Therefore there's no reason to buy this on its own. I'd suggest getting Wii Sports Resort, which is brilliant and was programmed side-by-side with the development of the MotionPlus, and which comes bundled with a MotionPlus.

The main reason to buy one of these separately is for multi-player games on MotionPlus titles like Sports Resort. Simultaneous multi-player is impossible unless you have more than one MotionPlus.

First of all this only works with games designed for it. So it won't change the control of any old game. So far only three games use motion plus, Virtua tennis, Grand slam tennis and Tiger Woods. Forget virtua tennis, motion plus was a last minute addition, Grand slam tennis controls brilliantly, you swing the controller in the same way you would a tennis raquet allowing you to precisely place your shot and add topspin or slice, and it works very well, occasional errors are due to the player not making the correct motion. Tiger woods also has a superb control system though it probably is'nt as significant to the game as tennis. In short, if you are interest in the games i mention get motion plus, end of story.

I have purchased Virtua Tennis and Tiger Woods with this device and while the tennis seems a bit ropey,if you are a golf fan you will be mightily impressed. You will certainly have to concentrate more than ever on your swing and position of your wrists at contact- a slight misjudgement will be detected which makes for a truly engrossing experience.
I understand there is at last a cricket game destined for the WII this summer and it will need to be compatible with Motion Plus to be an effective game-I played cricket to a good standard in real life so the programmers had better get it right- although I understand that it will probably take the third generation of a game to be somewhere close to the real thing.
I'm hoping any future compatible releases will be enhanced because of it.

I'd just like to point out that the Wii Motion plus accessory is designed specifically for brand new games that make use of the 1:1 motion seeking technology in the unit.

It is NOT designed to improve the motion seeking of older games that have been released. This is because the technology is different; the Wii Remote on it's own is merely a giro that 'guesses' where you are pointing. It will therefore not improve gameplay of older games.

Given that a few reviewers have already missed this point so far, I thought i'd make it known what it's really intended for. EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis is one of the first games to make use of the technology, while Wii Sports Resorts will offer full connectivity too. It has to be said though that Grand Slam is a spectacularly average game and does no justice to the technology.

Games that make use of the Wii Motion Plus accessory have a small circular logo in the top-left corner of their packaging, so you know whether it's compatible.

With such being the case, theirs little need to buy the accessory now until games start coming out thick and fast that utilise it. The packaging contains the accessory, a new silocone sleeve that accommodates the accessory, and information leaflets that contain more languages than C-3PO.

5.0 out of 5 stars A definite improvement, 12 July 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Nintendo Wii Motion Plus Accessory - White (Wii) (Accessory)
Having played Tiger Woods, it is clear that Motion Plus does add a lot of accuracy to the remote. My movement was replicated on screen with perfect accuracy and it took very little time to start making very good shots each time because it felt as though I could actually rely on the controller to pick up my movement.

I think that those who rated this product 1 star either missed the fact that this isn't meant to make all old games perfectly accurate and responsive, or didn't take the time to try and produce something close to the proper technique.

That being said, I did find Grand Slam Tennis difficult to control at first, but the key is to return your arm to the neutral position between each shot so as not to confuse the system. Whilst it is capable of tracking you quite impressively, 1:1 mapping in eg a tennis game is obviously not practical and so those expecting perfectly true to life motion would be disappointed.

If you put a little thought into your motion, this accessory does make for a much smoother experience and I will be buying another to play friends. I eagerly await the release of Wii Sports Resort!

5.0 out of 5 stars A step forward in Wii technology, enough said, 8 July 2009

The title says it's a step. It's really more of a leap. This enhances the performance of the Wii remote making realistic tennis, sword-play and the like (perhaps one day boxing!) possible. How could you not want to own this? Not only is it a technological leap, but it's a well made, thoroughly considered leap made by a company renowned, with good reason, for its commitment to quality. Nothing short of a holo-deck will be perfect, but this increases the sensitivity of the remote making the Wii games of the future more convincing and realisitic. "Motion" was the whole point of buying a Wii in the first place, right?

Some reviewers have, amazingly, complained that Wii Motion Plus doesn't work with older games. How in blazes could it possibly work with older games, programmed for the older controls? For crying out loud. People with I.Q.s lower than broccoli shouldn't be reviewing products. This is a NEW control, designed for NEW and FORTHCOMING games.

The Wii is about play control, not graphics. This improves the former. Enough said.

This is a great item that allows your little Mii person to move in allsorts of different directions that the standard remote does not....however I can't help feeling that I've been held to ransom over yet another accessory for the Wii, in that I didn't choose to purchase this I HAD to!!

My daughter was given Wii sports resort for her birthday - unfortunately it only comes with one Wii motion and as she has brothers and sisters they can't play with her unless we have one of these FOR EACH REMOTE. So.....In addition to buying more nunchucks, more steering wheels, we now need more of these.

I'm all for improvements in technology but I think they should have 'dumber' options on some of the game menus for those who can't always afford to by four times everything!!!!

....that said, this product works fine (although a little tricky to master).

You're going to need this controller to get the best out of games like Wii Resort, and even though the game comes with one remote, if ou want to play 2 player games then you definitely need to get an additional controler. My 7 yr old son and 5 yr old daughter absolutely love Wii resorts with the games much more diversified for younger children than Wii Sports. The controller itself is amazing in how it operates and definitely worth buying through Amazon who seemed to be the cheapest by far. If you really want to enjoy Wii Resorts to its max then get an additional controller.

Bought this as wii resort only comes with one motion plus accessory. Really good value. Worth buying the extra motion plus add on for games such as table tennis. Brilliant to play with two players.

4.0 out of 5 stars What Wii should have been..., 3 July 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Nintendo Wii Motion Plus Accessory - White (Wii) (Accessory)
So far the only game I have that requires Motion plus is Red Steel 2, which controls well. This accessory is also required for Zelda: Skyward Sword, which is shaping up to be an amazing title.

There are 2 things worth mentioning about Motion Plus:

1) Nintendo are looking to replace it with the motion plus-integrated Wii Remote Plus.

2) Wii U, Nintendo's next console, still uses Wii remotes. Presumably 1 to 1 gameplay will become the standard. Therefore, if you want your old wii remotes to remain valid you should consider buying Wii Motion Plus add-ons before they are discontinued. Alternatively, if you're looking for a new Wii controller make sure it's Wii Remote Plus.
