The man. The legend. The autobiography.

Even people who don't know football know Pelé. The best of a generation of Brazilian players universally acknowledged as the most accomplished and attractive group of footballers ever to play the game, he won the World Cup three times and is Brazil's all-time record goalscorer.

But how did this man -- a sportsman, a mere footballer, like many others -- become a global icon? Was it just by being the best at what he did, or do people respond to some other quality? In this book, the world's greatest footballer gives us the full story of his incredible life and career. Told with his characteristic grace and modesty, but covering all aspects of his playing days and his subsequent careers as politician, international sporting ambassador and cultural icon, PELE: THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY is an essential volume for all sports fans, and anyone who admires true rarity of spirit.

'An inspiring story... Pelé's innate dignity and modesty shine through this book'
Sunday Telegraph

'Pelé has a mythical status in football and he adds to it in Pelé: The Autobiography'
Sunday Times

'Pelé's rise to football superstardom is described with grace and modesty and explains why he was beloved by the whole world'
Daily Mail

'Of huge interest even to readers indifferent to its story of prowess trouncing prejudice... Every dressing-room, let alone every changing-room, should have one'
Independent

Bought this for my son he was delighted with the book and everything that came inside the book delighted with purchase

A great read of a true world character, from simple beginnings to the world's top football player. A truly down to earth man with no aires or graces and who always had time for other players and fans alike. Pelé will never be forgotten. HERO!!

Hello.

A very enjoyable read.
Pele was someone always spoken of throughout my childhood in the media.
This autobiography is compelling. From his poor upbringing in Brazil to his
playing bare foot on Copa Cobana beach in Rio and his star studded career
Pele relates well in this book of his extraordinary life.
I thought Pele had led a very trouble free life. But no one is perfect and
his honesty is refreshing.
I was most fascinated by the way Pele told of his love of the game of football.
Of the highlights of winning the World Cup with Brazil. Especially his wonderful
display's in the 1970 tournament in Mexico.
I read many autobiographies and this particular one stands out as one I
have enjoyed recently.

I recommend 'The Autobiography - Pele ' to football fans or anyone fascinated
by extraordinary gifted human beings.

Great
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 August 2014
A good autobiography of perhaps the greatest footballer of all time. However, I became slightly irritated by the constant references to God. Every good thing he did or achieved, or piece of good fortune he had in his life, he attributed to God. Other than that it was an enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most beautiful and energetic book I have ever read
Reviewed in India on 28 April 2023
Pele starts from his childhood and we all fall into his narration and we travel with him from Brazil to rest of the world and we laugh when happy things happen and contemplate when traumatic things happen and he jumps back to normalcy. I cannot imagine a single point where the books energy slows down. Atlast we get to know how it was to be Pele though not everyone is lucky to be so. Delivery and packing was good. Adios

5.0 out of 5 stars Obviously a great memoir
Reviewed in Italy on 6 February 2023
Obviously a great memoir, no surprises here. Written in 1st person narrative, you can literally feel O'Rey talking us through the greatest years of his careers. Not just football - I was surpised on how much he covered on his personal life, family, his love for Brazilian culture, as well as other not so well-known chapters of his life. i.e. going into debt, and some of his life challenges (ex. Living in USA).
Must-read for avid fans, anyone who loves football, or just about anyone who wants to understand how Pele turned a struggling Brazil into 'the' football country, during his 20 years of dominating the sport.
