Book Description

15 Feb 2008 1416044051 978-1416044055 3
This easy-to-read textbook introduces you to the human body as a living, functioning organism. You'll discover exactly what happens when normal body functions are upset by disease, and see how the body works to restore a state of balance and health. Concrete examples from everyday life help you understand how anatomy and physiology concepts relate to the real world - for example, suntan and sunburn help you understand melanin and pigment cells. Material is presented in 17 self-contained chapters, each exploring a particular aspect of body function. This updated third edition is now easier to use than ever, featuring new, visually-appealing artwork and new Tools for Learning, including easy-to-spot learning objectives and review questions at the end of major sections in each chapter.

3.0 out of 5 stars GCSE level 16 Nov 2007
By C. C. Chivers VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
The diagrams are good and in full colour and if you need it simply as a reference book to fill in your own diagrams it's fine. There are good summary tables and it also has a few exercises after each chapter, but for me, the only saving point was the diagrams. The rest of the book is basically a summary of all one needs to know rather than going into any detail which, for someone learning the subjects, is not very helpful at all. Choose a thicker book e.g. WIE Principles of Anatomy and Physiology.

The chapters are:
1. Introducing the Human Body
2. Cells and Tissues
3. The Integumentary System
4. The Skeletal system
5. The Muscular system
6. The Central Nervous System
7. The Peripheral Nervous System
8. The Sense Organs
9. Endocrine Control
10. The Circulatory system (Blood)
11. The Circulatory system (The Heart)
12. Circulation of Blood and Lymph
13. Internal Defense (Immune responses)
14. The Respiratory system
15. The Digestive System
16. The Urinary System adn FLuid Balance
17. Reproduction

I had just started my first year of nursing studies when I bought this book. It has been so useful and is written in a way that I can understand. It has lots of pictures too to help with demonstration. I definitely recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars a decent text 9 Feb 2010
By Lyndsey Coen - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This text is clear and well defined, but lacks in depth information. Therefore, it is my conclusion that is it a good reference text for a college level anatomy physiology, but either another text or detailed reader might be necessary for depth of field.
