This is the only book by Ms Spindler I had read and I only read it because I had nothing else to read and a friend loaned it to me. What a pleasant surprise. The plot was believable and fast moving. Not terrifying but suspense filled none the less. Alex was a sympathetic heroine not whiney despite her family history. And tough! 3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty average. An easy enough read to pass the time but not one of her best books. Seemed a bit rushed at the end.
This is the third book of the author's I have read now and I have to say I have enjoyed it the least. That is not to say I didn't enjoy it but it was pretty average and I didn't enjoy reading it half as much as Shocking Pink (MIRA Backlist) and Cause for Alarm (MIRA). The story wasn't as good I as I had hoped it would be and I felt quite bored reading it for large parts...

5.0 out of 5 stars thrilling, 10 July 2010
This review is from: Blood Vines (Hardcover)
This is the only book by Ms Spindler I had read and I only read it because I had nothing else to read and a friend loaned it to me. What a pleasant surprise. The plot was believable and fast moving. Not terrifying but suspense filled none the less. Alex was a sympathetic heroine not whiney despite her family history. And tough! I would have moved out of the house stat if I had found the dead cat in my bathroom but not Alex! Ms Spindler makes the California wine region come to life. Daniel was a very credible and likeable hero although the romance wasnt too convincing but this did not detract in any way from the plot which was well thought out. I will definitely be buying more of Ms Spindlers works. Afer reading Blood vines I had that great feeling of discovering an author and knowing you have a wealth of material to read until you have to wait anxiously till the release date of her next novel. As thriller and suspense novels go Ms Spindler is up there with the best.

I love this author and bought this really looking forward to reading it and i wasn't disappointed i thought it might get a bit "black magic" and was ready to stop but it turned out not to be too much of this in the story a real winner, buy it you wont regret it, the other review has all there is to tell about the story so i not have to repeat it all.

This is the third book of the author's I have read now and I have to say I have enjoyed it the least. That is not to say I didn't enjoy it but it was pretty average and I didn't enjoy reading it half as much as Shocking Pink (MIRA Backlist) and Cause for Alarm (MIRA). The story wasn't as good I as I had hoped it would be and I felt quite bored reading it for large parts. At one stage I did think I was wrong about the book as all of a sudden it did become quite gripping and I was desperate to find out what would happen next but then the ending kind of spoiled it as it just seemed to flop.

Usually, I find her characters and the way the events of her stories unfold are quite believable and realistic but with this book there were a few occasions where I didn't find it to be the case. That was certainly true of the ending, where she pulled most of it all together but it seemed very rushed and to my mind it ended quite abruptly. I thought there were still a fair few loose ends that needed tying up, almost like she had forgotten what these loose ends had to do with the plot and just wanted to end the book there and then, so that was a bit frustrating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Up All Night!, 28 April 2011

Erica Spindler outdoes herself once again. You will find yourself captivated by the story. I felt I was standing with Alexandra Clarkson when she entered the wine caves...I felt for her and what she was going through. How could people not believe, but then again why should they? This story is a real page-turner! And I must say...it left my hankering for a good glass of wine!

I started reading Erica Spindler about 6 months ago and have now read about 20 of her books and they are all brilliant. I love that you get the same characters showing up in her later books and it's like reading their life stories ( a bit like Karin Slaughter who is also brilliant).
Having bought the 10 pack offer that is available through Amazon I can't stop reading her books. If you like crime you'll love this.
