fungal nail treatment

Scholl Fungal Nail Treatment is an easy to use, all in one treatment system. It has been developed by experts at Scholl to offer consumers an alternative way of treating fungal nail infections. Topical treatments are a common and effective way of killing mild fungal nail before it progresses to severe or total nail plate destruction, at which point it is important to consult a healthcare professional.

Treating fungal nail can be frustrating as it is often a lengthy process and in many cases the infection will recur. It can also take a long time for the nail’s appearance to show any signs of improvement.

The all-in-one treatment from Scholl designed to ease this frustration. The easy-to-use device is scientifically proven to effectively kill nail fungus, help prevent the spread and recurrence of infection, and help improve the appearance of the nail.

It is a two-step treatment system, comprising of 5 disposable nail files along with an ‘Advanced Nail Liquid’ that has been developed to effectively treat fungal nail infections and help prevent the spread of infection and recurrence. The first step is the treatment phase, which kills the fungus in 4 weeks. The next step is the protection phase which lasts until the nail has grown-out to protect the nails against re-infection.

What causes fungal nail infections?

Fungal nail infection occurs when the nail structure (toenails or fingernails) becomes infected by a fungus. Nails are well protected from their environment by the cuticle together with the nails folds and hyponychium which help seal and protect the nail from invasion of foreign bodies (including bacterial or fungal infections). Slight damage to the nail’s protective structures, by trauma or disease, creates an entry portal for these bodies to invade. The infection may involve any part of the nail structure including the nail plate, nail bed or nail matrix.

fungal nail

What does it look like?

Fungal nail infections usually look unpleasant because the nail becomes thickened, discoloured (yellow, brown or white; patches, streaks or islands), flaky, brittle and uncomfortable.

Most fungal nail infections initially begin as mild infections affecting a small portion of the nail. However if left untreated, the infection could eventually spread to involve a larger portion of the nail, leading to a completely damaged nail or even the nail becoming detached.

How to treat fungal nail

Fungal Nail can be a distressing and embarrassing condition and without treatment fungal nail will not improve and could eventually spread to involve a larger portion of the nail, which is why Scholl has developed Scholl Fungal Nail Treatment. Scholl Fungal Nail Treatment is an effectively designed system for the treatment of mild fungal nail. The treatment phase lasts 4 weeks after which the level of discolouration on the nail is reduced. The protection phase lasts until the nail grows out and helps to prevent the spread of fungus and protects against recurrence. It’s discrete, easy to use and has been specially formulated to penetrate into the nail and kill nail fungus at its source. So don’t be embarrassed to bare your toes – choose Scholl Fungal Nail Treatment.

Directions

You MUST read the instruction leaflet carefully before use.

How does Fungal Nail Treat work?
Phase 1: Treatment Phase (4 weeks).
To kill the nail fungus:
Week 1 - File the nail surface once a week.
Dispose of the file after use.
Apply the advanced liquid to the infected nail daily.
Repeat for weeks 2, 3 & 4.
Phase 2: Protection Phase (9 months).
To prevent spreading & protect from recurrence.
Apply the advanced liquid to the infected nail once a week for 9 months or until the discolouration has grown out.

What are the visible results?
At the end of the Treatment Phase the level of discolouration on the nail is reduced.
After 9-12 months which is the average length of time a human toenail takes to grow-out completely, the discolouration will have disappeared and nails will have recovered with no signs of fungal infection.

Advice.
Avoid contact with eyes and skin. If irritation occurs, discontinue use. Always replace cap after use.
To avoid the spread of infection, never reuse files.
For external use only. Do not use on broken skin or any other foot conditions.

What are the symptoms?
Yelllow/brownish discolouration of the nail.
White 'islands' on the surface of the nail.
The appearance of the nail is rougher, more brittle and with ridges.

What happens if it is not treated?
In most cases the nail will eventually crumble and become detached from the toe or finger.

Scholl and diabetes.
Please SEEK ADVICE before use if you have diabetes as your foot condition may require treatment by a healthcare professional.

I've been plagued by fungal nail infections on both feet since I was a teenager. I was told, once in the nail the infection is systemic and that no topical medication will treat it. Unfortunately for me, the two GPs I've had have refused to treat them. The first citing possible kidney damage, the other called it a "cosmetic concern." This has lead to 15 years of athlete's foot, despite every measure I've taken, as the lightest damp has caused my nails to reinfected my feet. It's cost me a fortune over the years in hot laundry, athlete's foot creams and powders, disinfectants for the shower after every bath, frequent shoe replacements, etc.

So, when the good reviews started to appear for this product, I decided to give it a go. This was back in July.

I bought a bottle, and as I opened it, my heart sank. My nails were much more far gone than the photos in the accompanying leaflet with the big, fat, red X on it. Having spent the money, I thought I'd nothing to lose by trying it, and I'm so glad I did.

Aside from beginning with a more serious infection than recommended I followed the instructions to the letter, and then, on another recommendation on here, carried on with the first 4-week regime for another month before stepping it back to twice weekly applications.

For the first 5 weeks I saw no improvement at all, however, as yet, my feet have not become reinfected. Then, gradually, the yellow left my nails. They are now pink and thinner, though still with heavy white ridges. In fact, they now look like the photo in the accompanying leaflet with the blue tick next to them! To me, that's a vast improvement. More encouragingly, for the first time since my teens there is healthy new growth at the base of my nails. If this continues, I will have normal, healthy, toenails by this time next year.

I have high hopes, but am willing to be patient.

I normally don't have time to write reviews, but feel compelled to do so for this product. I am quite amazed with the results I'm seeing after only 3 weeks of treatment! I've struggled with a nasty fungal nail infection on my toe for the last 5 years. I've tried 4 different medications and none of them managed to completely clear it. The reaction to this Scholl treatment is very impressive - the infected area had been consistently drying up and after filing it once a week for the last 3 weeks, it reduced already by about 60%. Although the treatment needs to continue for the next 8 months, the nail already looks nicer than at any point in the last 5 years. When applied to the nail, I feel a tingling sensation for a bit and this reassures me that the product does penetrate deep. I haven't experienced this with any other brand I tried before. I know the ultimate test will come in a while, when the infection hopefully disappears permanently, but I still give it 5 stars today, because no other product has had such a major effect so far.

4.0 out of 5 stars Effective Nail Treatment 4 May 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
This product seems to have worked. When I purchased it, I had been treating an infected toenail with Loceryl prescribed by my G.P. for 6 months. This did not control the infection entirely and my G.P. admitted that a failing of Loceryl varnish is that it does not penetrate through the nail. I bought this product because it did claim to penetrate through the nail and the results with this one toenail do not contradict that claim. So I would recommend that anyone with stubborn nail infections should try this product for a month or two. The instructions say apply daily for four weeks, but I kept up daily application (but not weekly filing) for eight weeks, until the nail was completely clear and re-grown. The only let down on this product is the quality of the nail files supplied in the fancy dispenser. The nail files in the simple book that came with the Loceryl are far better. Carefully pull off the dispenser and just keep the little bottle of lotion. There would be enough lotion in the bottle to treat several infected nails. Also, unlike Loceryl, slight spillage into the surrounding skin did not cause any irritation. Thank you, Scholl.

A very good price for what I was going to buy anyway. Certainly appears to be working although these things take a long time to get rid of completely.

1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work
I used it for a YEAR. It seemed to work at first, then stopped. The fungus came back and didn't go away again. So, for me, it simply didn't work. Waste of time and money.
