4.0 out of 5 stars New York Review of Books
This is a review of the Kindle edition of the NYROB. I subscribed to it recently and have read two issues on the kindle app on i-pad and the Kindle device. Same subscription allows you to send the magazine to as many kindle devices as you own. NYROB is my favourite literary fortnightly where the reviews are often more literate than the books being reviewed. As an example,...

1.0 out of 5 stars Kindle edition not available on my, er, Kindle
Having bought a shiny new Kindle Paperwhite specifically for reading magazines, I'm a bit ticked off to find that one of my favorites, the NYRB, is not available. I was able to get it previously for my old grey-plastic-and-buttons Kindle but it has vanished from the supposed upgrade. Why?

Apparently, I can download an app that will let me read the magazine on...

4.0 out of 5 stars New York Review of Books, 22 Oct 2011

This is a review of the Kindle edition of the NYROB. I subscribed to it recently and have read two issues on the kindle app on i-pad and the Kindle device. Same subscription allows you to send the magazine to as many kindle devices as you own. NYROB is my favourite literary fortnightly where the reviews are often more literate than the books being reviewed. As an example, see Daniel Mendelsohn's review of 'The Stranger's Child' in the current issue. If you like the London Review of Books, you will love this. (LROB started as a supplement of NYROB before going on its own).I am so glad such a quality magazine is available at such a competitive price. Layout is quite good and reading, particularly on the Kindle device, is quite painless. (I-pad reading can get tiresome after a while as the articles tend to be quite long; average length 3-4000 words and it can be a bit of a pain in the sunlight)

I am keeping a star as there is an important feature missing from this electronic version. There is no information on the contributors, which in the paper version occupies almost a whole page. I sincerely hope this oversight is corrected soon.

Another good point; one doesn't get locked in for a whole year. There is a standard two week free trial and after that, one can still cancel anytime paying only for the issues up-to that point.

Overall, highly recommended for those who take their reading seriously!

PS: My personal info puts me as living in Rochester New York, but I have lived in the UK now for the last 10 years or so.

1.0 out of 5 stars Kindle edition not available on my, er, Kindle, 21 Jan 2013

Having bought a shiny new Kindle Paperwhite specifically for reading magazines, I'm a bit ticked off to find that one of my favorites, the NYRB, is not available. I was able to get it previously for my old grey-plastic-and-buttons Kindle but it has vanished from the supposed upgrade. Why?

Apparently, I can download an app that will let me read the magazine on my iPod touch, enabling me to join the presumed hoard of people who enjoy reading 4,000-word essays on a backlit screen the size of a match box, but I can't read it on my custom-built e-reader. As they would say in Private Eye: 'shurely shome mishtake...'

Bring it back or I shall be forced to write another mildly snotty review. And you don't want that.

1.0 out of 5 stars Insanity, 2 Jan 2013
This review is from: The New York Review of Books (Kindle Edition)
Like Mr Moss I found myself unable to get the NYRB on my Kindle Fire in the UK. On seeing that it was available for the Fire in the US I protested to Amazon who replied at inordinate but entirely uninformative length. I tried contacting first the subscription department then the editor of the NYRB but have had no reply. The irritation is compounded by the fact that it is available in the UK for the cheaper Kindle products which suggest that there are no commercial or technical reasons for its unavailability and all it requires is for someone to pull a finger out from wherever it is stuck.

Having set up my Kindle Fire HD I went to download NYRB only to be told that is no yet available on this device.....
Excuse me, Amazon, but have I just bought a(n expensive) Kindle device which seems to be unable to give me the No. 13 on the Kindle magazine chart?
