Book Description

5 Sep 2013
This is a compelling celebration of the life of Marco Simoncelli, the maverick motorcycle racer who lost his life in the 2011 Malaysian MotoGP race. Written by his parents, Rossella and Paolo, this book paints an intimate portrait of a rising star. Simoncelli s final lap was as adrenaline-fuelled as the rest of his career, which was on the way up the two races before his last were arguably two of his best. Marco s eventful paddock life, signature afro and close friendship with Valentino Rossi are all captured here by the words of his parents, and in 200 unique photographs of life on and off the track. Contents: A very personal and characterful tribute celebrating the life of a much-loved man who was one of MotoGP's up-and-coming stars. A colourful portrait by Simoncelli's parents, supported by contributions from stars such as Valentino Rossi. Contains over 200 unique photographs, including moments captured by family and friends as well as striking images from his racing life. Covers his entire racing career: his first 125cc race win in 2004; his 250cc World Championship title in 2008; his arrival in MotoGP in 2010 with the Honda Gresini Team and subsequent rise to stardom. The year he died, 2011, saw him fulfil his promise, with a maiden pole position (Catalunya, Spain) and best finish of second place (Phillip Island, Australia).

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Read 24 Oct 2013
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a lovely tribute to Marco, you get an insight into what kind of a youg man he was. It comes across he was so down to earth and had time for every one, one thing he did do was keep his feet on the ground. There are times when reading this your heart goes out to his family, his mum writing the diaries he would never see, the relationship he had with his father. What a loss to Motogp, we will always be left wondering 'what if'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bought as a gift 23 Oct 2013

I bought this as a gift so can't resonably review it myself. The recipient is enjoying it though. It was important to him that he had a book that focused on Marco as a person - with this being written by his closest friends and family members, I felt it the perfect choice. Plenty of pictures, looks good.

Definitely worth buying, as it goes deeply into Marco's life and the way he lived it. Contributions from friends, family and fellow racers. The photos are really good. Sadly missed from the Motogp scene, and by all those who were lucky enough to have known him.
