5.0 out of 5 stars The best 'How to Snowboard' book I've read 31 Oct 2006
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is hands down the best instructional book about snowboarding I've read and i think that I have read most of the ones on the market at the moment. What makes it great is

1. That its written by an amazing Snowboard instructor who has many years or pro-riding at the top level and teaching riders of all levels.

2. That the book is great for someone just starting or someone who is already a decent rider

3. It's well laid out with, well written, good diagrams and some amazing photographs

4. It comes with a DVD

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book from an Awesome Rider 18 Feb 2007
Format:Paperback
Neil's book is the first snowboard title I've encountered that covers the modern foot-steering technique. That alone would make it stand out from the crowd, but it goes far beyond that. The book covers the "McNab Four Point Pressure Control System", a new evolution in snowboard technique that is suitable for the whole spectrum of riders - from complete beginners to the advanced and experienced.

I had the pleasure of learning the system on one of the McNab Technical Performance Clinics last year and it is an utter joy to use - very powerful, very natural and suitable for all kinds of terrain and conditions.

As a qualified instructor, I can highly recommend this book to both novices looking for some up-to-date background reading, as well as more established snowboarders looking to take their riding to the next level. The text is clear and readable, the photos and diagrams support the information presented, and the book is broken down into small sections which are great for flicking through. Adding a DVD was a stroke of genius - although short, seeing the exercises in action really helps to get the ideas across. Snowboarding is not a static activity!

If you want to discover how to ride snowboards using a modern, efficient and solid technique do yourself a favour and buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book on the market 28 Jan 2007
Format:Paperback
This book is superb, its relevant whether you are a beginner or have been snowboarding many years.

The DVD brings to life the theory enabling you to see it being put into practice by Neil.

The McNab pressure controls system allows you to learn to ride the board using just the feet rather than the whole body. This moves you from the 'chalet girl shuffle' to carving right on the edge.

Having just returned from a McNab technical freeride clinic in chamonix the book will enable me to keep riding the right way until my return to the Alps in 2008

The book is a must have for any snowboarder regardless of skill.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fab book 17 April 2007
Format:Paperback
I have just come back from the French Alps having learnt to snowboard for the first time. I am profoundly deaf and found it difficult to understand everything the snowboard instructors say and therefore this book is a brilliant resource for me as it confirmed what I understood from the instructors that I needed to do with snowboarding and filled in the gaps for the bits I didn't hear from the instructors. And the book is a brill tool to take me to the next stage!! I can't wait to go back again next year!!!

Firstly I am 35 years old, went snowboarding for the first time back in 1999 for a week and never did it again, family houses etc put a hold on this sort of stuff.

roll fwd 2009.
Decided it was about time I gave snowboarding another go! I loved it 10 years before but was rubbish!
Bought this book as it had great reviews.
The best thing though is this book goes in to the Physics of why the board turns etc. 10 years ago i did a few lessons, at no stage did the instructor tell me why this or that happens where as the book describes why with pictures and video footage.
Knowing the physics really helps you understand.

I did a 1 day lesson here in the uk a few weeks before holiday on a dry slope.
Read the book several times practicing in the living room at home with stances etc

Went to Austria for a week in feb armed with the book and the dvd ripped to my iPhone.
First day was getting used to snow! Slippery stuff LOL, but by end of the day slowly going down blue runs and falling a lot.
Each night went back to the room read the bits i wanted to focus on and watched the chapter on the dvd.
Each day I improved really well and by the end of the week I was more than happy on Red runs even going for a small ollies and jumps.

Both myself and 2 friends used this book through out the week helping each other with the book as a guide. The other 2 had neve been before!

We spent the whole week with No instructors just the book, we met some other more experienced boarders and by the end of the week they couldn't believe we taught ourselves out of a book and were truly shocked.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this book! 30 July 2008
Format:Paperback
This book can teach you how to snowboard without an instructor.

I self taught myself and my girlfriend to snowboard in only a few days with the aid of this book.

The great thing about this book are the diagrams which explain *where* to apply pressure to the board.

Previously, i had several lessons in which they taught twisting of the upper body and weighting of the leading foot to initiate turns.

The McNab method teaches you to initiate turns with just movements of the feet combined with raising and lowering the body.

You also end up looking alot more relaxed and controlled than people who use twisting to turn the board.

Bottom line, buy this book if you want to learn to snowboard without an instructor but with very good technique.
