In some respects this is very much a traditional haunted house story - twenty years after the tragic death of his aunt, Aaron returns to his hometown to live in his old house, which is notorious in the neighbourhood as being haunted. He has his own demons to battle and believes that here he will be able to find peace of mind. Pretty soon though, he starts seeing strange things and having horrendous nightmares that he cannot explain and for a great part of the read you are puzzling whether this is really a haunted house story or the tale of a man battling against insanity. You get right inside Aaron's head and for most of the time that is not a very pleasant place to be. Having said that, there is something about him that you just can't help rooting for him.
It is a very gripping story, I just had to keep going to find out what was going to happen next. It is chilling, scary and quite gory at times and just a darn good read all round. I loved the ending which has quite a blood chilling twist to it. |
