5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!!!
This is one of the best books I have ever read. You could really feel for LuAnn Tyler and wanted everything to work out for her. This was my 1st book by David Baldacci and it prompted me to buy more of his work. Try 'Split Second'-Excellent! 'Absolute Power'-couldn't put it down. I've ordered more of his work today on Amazon and can't wait to get started.

2.0 out of 5 stars Buy another Baldacci - not this one
I've only recently begun reading Baldacci and have enjoyed each book a great deal. But not this one. The storyline only seems to move when intelligent and otherwise credible characters make stupid (and fairly predictable)moves.

Previous books I did not want to end - I had to force myself to finish this and it was a real chore from about 50% onwards...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for me., 21 Feb 2014

I have read most of the books written by David Baldacci and never been disappointed. However, I struggled from the start to get into this story. Didn't like the general idea of the storyline or the characters once I had got into it enough to decide. Didn't even finish this book which is very very unusual for me. Personally wouldn't recommend this.

Sorry.

Do buy a Baldacci, but not this one.

I tend to get fed up with books populated by incredibly ingenious villains overcome by a fortuitous combination of handsome, spunky men and beautiful, talented women who live more or less happily ever after (what they call in German a "Happyend"). But then, I guess, if they were ordinary folk, we'd never get to hear about it because (a) they would be too boring for words (just like all the rest of us), or (b) the baddie would inevitably triumph and we'd never be any the wiser, so perhaps I shouldn't moan. So, what we need to get us from the beginning to the inevitable end in an entertaining manner is a good plot, well told. This manages fairly well on both counts.

At the beginning of the book, I guessed the end, and got it nearly right (there were more survivors than I expected). All in all, an entertaining read, just the right thing for train and plane journeys. Sure you could read a lot better, but you could also read a lot worse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding reading, 29 Oct 2007
This review is from: The Winner (Paperback)
This was the first book I had read by David Baldacci and will most definitely not be the last. Although I more or less guessed what the outcome would be I was still intrigued. Where does he get his ideas from? An absolutely brilliant read. Highly recommended. Now I'm looking for more books by this author. Outstanding.

Perfect for the one or two week holiday. More than 50 small chapters make it easy to read in small doses, provided, that is, you can put it down. You think you know were it's going only to end up at another dead end. This was my first Baldacci book. I am currently considering which of his other titles to read for my October 2000 break.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good, but......, 5 Mar 2000

This review is from: The Winner (Paperback)
The Winner was very good but, it lacked the strength of Absolute Power, and the sheer fast pastness of Total Control. It was a good story though, and i totally enjoyed it. Can`t wait for more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing action packed adventure, 4 Aug 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Winner (Paperback)
The Winner was the first David Baldacci book I read and was certainly the most exciting read in my last 5 years worth of books. The plot was absolutely gripping - it really would make an excellent film. After reading The Winner I had to buy his other books immediately!

A good read, but clearly an early Baldacci, even though Amazon say first published in 2011. The paperback came out in 1997. Please add this detail to all ebooks. We will still buy them.
