Product Description

Lady Catherine “Cat” Sinclair will do whatever necessary to save her family from financial ruin—including marrying the ton’s most eligible bachelor for money. Lacking the skills to seduce the rich lord, Cat seeks out a legendary rake to school her in the art of desire. But when she finally tracks down Thomas Montrose—now retired—she dismisses him as “over the hill.”

Once a rake of mythic notoriety, Thomas is happy to forget his dissolute past and tend his country estate, until, that is, his peace is disrupted by a charming and infuriatingly dismissive miss. While he may no longer seduce women, he has certainly not forgotten how to make them surrender to his charms…and he’s only too happy to prove Cat wrong. So the master seducer promises to teach her his scandalous secrets

But Thomas never dreams his beautiful student could send him to the edge of temptation…or that witnessing her dazzle every lord who crosses her path would make him insanely jealous. Now he must act quickly—and overcome the secrets of his past—before he loses forever the woman to whom he’s already lost his heart.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not up to Brockway's usual standard 17 Jan 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I'm a big Brockway fan, but this didn't work for me.

It was supposed to be set in Devon, but it didn't seem like Devon at all. More like Texas. For the first few chapters I thought that it was a Western.

And that was just the beginning of things that were just not very English historical. It takes them only a few hours to get from Devon to Brighton (it takes that long now!!). There is a surreal lack of historical type propriety (no one seems to be concerned for the heroine's reputation). It squicks me rather that the hero 'pretends' to be the heroine's uncle... (ewww...) Gowns that sound skimpy even by today's standards (really?). Random jealousy and misunderstandings. Meh.

I guess that it is a book that would be considered a 'romp'. But I just didn't get it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Slow Start but a good read 3 April 2014
Format:Paperback
This is my first time reading a book by Connie Brockway, and i nearly put it down a couple of times, but by the end i couldn't put it down. I felt she used unnecessary words, trying to make it seem very clever. And the first 3-4 chapters were a struggle, but i persisted as it was recommended. A couple of holes in the story, including how quickly they got around France and England. If you can excuse little mistakes like that then the main characters were likeable and amusing. And i found myself wanting to know what happened next. So apart from the beginning and a few little niggles i really enjoyed it, and will be trying another of her books

Hard to get into at first but gripping once you do. The story line is good, but predictable. I would definitely consider more books by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sensuality, Intelligence and Wit 22 Aug 2003
By Trisha A. Howell - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Connie Brockway's first novel, Promise Me Heaven, sizzles with sensuality and is drenched with intelligence, wit and wonderful characters.
Sassy and sensitive Catherine "Cat" Sinclair must marry a wealthy man to save her impoverished family, so she seeks out Thomas Montrose, a notorious rake, to instruct her in the art of seduction.
Once the toast of London, Thomas is now retired to a country estate, and Cat's arrogant assumption that he's over the hill angers him enough to take up the challenge. But as he teaches her everything he knows about the art of seduction, he becomes seduced by her dazzling wit, genuineness and warm heart--not to mention her breathtaking beauty.

Yet his secret past forces him to resist her even as she falls ever deeper in love with him. Through a myriad of plot turns that take the couple from Devon to London to Paris, and pit them against a dazzling array of lively secondary characters, Cat and Thomas develop a deep, complex and passionate relationship, full of witty repartee.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my two all time favorites 30 Dec 1999
By K. Williams - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Synopsis: Lady Catherine (Cat) Sinclair's family needs money. Her mother has remarried and all but run off, leaving her to care for her siblings and a rundown estate. In desparation, she goes to seek out her step-uncle, Thomas. He was supposed to have been quite a rake in his time at court. Her plan is to have him teach her how to be a seductress so that she might land Giles Strand as a husband.
What follows is pure chemistry....
These characters drew me in and came alive like few have ever done before. I have enjoyed Connie Brockway's other books, but none like this one. It is well worth the read!
PS - the other favorite is Paradise by Judith McNaught.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Indication of a Fabulous Talent! 6 Feb 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
To be honest, I wasn't expecting much. I love almost everything that Connie Brockway has written...except for Anything for Love, which wasn't all that great IMO. But Promise Me Heaven knocked my socks off. It was NOT your typical regency historical. The chemistry between Cat and Thomas positively sizzles. And as a wonderful surprise we get glimpses of Colonel Henry "Jack" Seward and Giles Strand, those wonderful guys from All Through the Night. It's hard to find, but it's a great read. Another note: Cat and Thomas turn out to be the great-grandparents of Avery Thorne, the hero of My Dearest Enemy. I just love connections!
So, go out and find this book. You won't regret it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Long and drawn out. 28 Oct 2013
By Jenny Wo - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
The first few chapters were a good read, but soon it became long and drawn out. I actually lost interest in the book, had it not been for the fact that I don't like to leave a book unread I would have not finished it. The author rushed the conclusion of the book, which was a shame. After forging through the book, and just when it started to finally come together the author sped through what should have been an enjoyable conclusion. All in all, if more time and effort would have been put forth at the conclusion of the book where it was needed I would have rated it a five star.

2.0 out of 5 stars Booklover 7 Oct 2013
By Lynn Maltese - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The reader waits until they are approximately 90 per cent thru the story for the romance, not sex, romance, and then basically the book is over. Would have been nice for them to clear up all misunderstandings between each other and speak of loving each other and perhaps getting a glimpse of living together happily maybe sharing a bedroom and spending loving days together and evenings as well as nights. Very disappointed as the potential for a romantic happy ending was just not followed thru.
