Product Description

Product Description

Emma Bailey is thirty years old and single. No problem for her, but a point of round-the-clock contention for her mother, her family, and too many of her friends. In Jamie Lynn Braziel's Declaring Spinsterhood, the terminal illness known as "old maid" is explored from every angle, and the result is a compassionate, compelling, and wickedly funny novel. Emma may stand up before all and declare her intention to never marry, but what about that little place in her heart reserved for Brian Davis? Sure, Brian's seeing someone, and Emma is not a vixen who breaks up relationships, but would it be so terrible if Brian returned the interest? Rather than bide her time, Emma dates…and dates. Some of the men are charming, others less so. With her vow of spinsterhood more a noose than a friend, Emma musters her courage and moves on. That is, until the unforeseen throws up the biggest obstacle of her life: love.

Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine Review (What's this?)
Not a racy, corset gripping book of a thirty year old woman's plight at being single, much more refrained.

That said a great summer easy read! Not a juicy, big block buster read but a pleasant one. This was one of the reasons I choose this book, as I wanted a easy book that doesn't involve too much thought process, no murders just a good read.

Emma a 30 year old is suffering at the hands of her mother and friends about the lack of her having partner, even worse this is magnified at her sister's wedding.

So Emma declares 'Spinsterhood', funny at parts and also sad in others.

Well worth a read but remember not a corset gripping summer read.

If you like Jackie Collins type books you would be disappointed with this as in no way does this compare.

2.0 out of 5 stars A lighthearted jaunt through predictability! 14 Aug 2011
By Lindsay
Format:Paperback
After a crushing heartbreak and some complete dating disasters, Emma Bailey is fed up with the dating scene. Thirty years old and ready to declare herself a spinster, her mother is unwilling to accept her decision and is constantly trying to set her up on blind dates. Emma's only solace from her maddening mother is her best friend and neighbor, Brian. How could Emma possibly get through life without him there to share evenings of Chinese food and Cary Grant movies? Everything in Emma's life is running smoothly until Brian finds himself a serious girlfriend, and Emma finds herself unhappily solo.

I can sum up this book in one word: Predictable. Painfully so. If you couldn't pull together the outcome of the book based on my summary, you're daft! The characters were fairly shallow and cliché- the nagging mom, the teasing brother, the oblivious dad, and the arrogant prick of an ex. That said, Declaring Spinsterhood was cute. It's no epic love story or future Nicholas Sparks-esque movie, but it provides some light entertainment for the few hours it takes to read.

Emma and Brian are funny and cute together, and their dating horror stories are ones which most people can relate to. Many women can relate to having the meddling mother, but the author seems to exaggerate a bit (really though, if you found out what your daughter's ex did to her, would you push her to get back together with him, simply so she'd have a boyfriend???). The characters of Emma and Brian were fairly well developed, although sometimes Emma's personality didn't sync well with her actions. She comes across as timid and easily influenced when she's with her family, but she's simultaneously out getting her concealed carry license so she can better protect herself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful summer read 21 May 2011
By Mrs. Angie Gardiner VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine Review (What's this?)
Declaring Spinsterhood is a delightful summer read of the ups and downs of dating, love and romance. When Emma gets fed up of the dating scene she "declares spinsterhood". I am not going to say any more about the story as I hate giving things away but I am sure if you buy this book you will really enjoy it. I loved the storyline, a great summer read and would recommend this wonderful little book.

2.0 out of 5 stars disapointing, bible belt chic lit 4 May 2011
By Jay Rainbow VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine Review (What's this?)
I was really disapointed by this book, not because the main character is a religious 30 yr old virgin but because the book is predictable and whilst not a long novel it is a slightly boring one. the moody meloncolic attitude of the protagonist did nothing to endear the story to me. the only twist in the story is a slightly violent one but if you read the very obvious signs throughout the begining and middle it will not in anyway shock or surprise you.
That said I feel it only fair to point out that I am a 25yr old athiest from England, I'm sure the book will apeal to more religious readers who apreaciate the lack of bad language and the very sexualy moral path the characters have chosen to take. I do however, feel that there should be some indication of this on the cover. I looked forward to reading what I expected to be a modern chic lit. The books only time indicater is a referance to a memory card for a camera, without this you could easily believe the book is decades old.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lightweight and reasonably entertaining 30 Nov 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
It was fine, got it on one of the Kindle daily deals - won't go looking for anything else by the same author. There is more entertaining and neatly written chick kit out there.

1.0 out of 5 stars It was dreadful 19 Nov 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
It is not often I can't finish a book but this was so awful I could not continue. The plotline could be predicted from the first few pages and the characters were completely one dimensional and unbelievable.
