Book Description

Can baking mend a broken heart? From the bestselling author of Meet Me at the Cupcake Café comes this deliciously funny, heartwarming and utterly inspirational new novel

Product Description

Polly Waterford is recovering from a toxic relationship. Unable to afford their flat, she has to move miles away from everyone, to a sleepy little seaside resort in Cornwall, where she lives alone above an abandoned shop.

And so Polly takes out her frustrations on her favourite hobby: making bread. But what was previously a weekend diversion suddenly becomes far more important as she pours her emotions into kneading and pounding the dough, and each loaf becomes better and better. With nuts and seeds, olives and chorizo, with local honey (courtesy of local bee keeper, Huckle), and with reserves of determination and creativity Polly never knew she had, she bakes and bakes and bakes . . . And people start to hear about it.

Sometimes, bread really is life . . . And Polly is about to reclaim hers.

This is a lovely story and has a real feel good factor about it. The main character, Polly, is written about in such a way that you actually begin to care about her and what happens! I loved the descriptions in the book - made me want to move house nearer the sea...

This book is light reading and enjoyable. The kind that you want to read in one sitting.

Would recommend.

If there is only 1 book you read this year then it has to be Little Beach Street Bakery. This novel definitely has the 'feel good factor'. There are lots of interesting characters in it & my favourites were Reuben & his relationship with Kerensa, Jayden & of course, the wonderful Neil! Please Jenny write a sequel

5.0 out of 5 stars A lovely read 7 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought 'Little Beach Street Bakery' as I was looking for a light, easy read on my Kindle and it definitely didn't disappoint. I found myself being pulled into the story and really caring about the characters - it was sad in places, happy in others and made me laugh out loud more than once. A lovely read - especially for a holiday!

A relaxing, easy read book. Very descriptive of the local surroundings, and the characters interesting. A bit predictable for the ending, but non the worse for it.

Great for a holiday read.

Charming story in a seaside village that you could almost see if you close your eyes, and I don't think anyone could read it without falling in love with Neil the puffin, a triumph Jenny Colgan, only problem I could not put it down and finished it in 2 days , I really hope there is a sequel

5.0 out of 5 stars A delightful read 5 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is a complete delight. I loved it from start to finish.

Following the loss of a business and a break up of a long term relationship Polly has to start again. Struggling to find somewhere cheap enough to live she happens across a small coastal town. Polly struggles to find her place in the new town, clashing with some residents and finding friends with the lure of baked goods. The locals are a great mix of eccentric characters with the odd hunky bloke thrown in for good measure. Will Polly be happy in the new town or are there bigger challenges ahead.

I love Jenny Colgan's books, they are always a delightful mix of happiness and romance. The characters are a perfect cast, I especially loved Rueben and the adorable Neil. I really didn't expect a twist in the middle at all. As usual the book had many laugh out loud moments but this time there was also points of sobbing too so don't forget to have tissues handy.

A little gem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful 4 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
If this is chick lit, I am an honorary chick. This is a delightful book about a woman whose relationship breaks up when her and her partners' business goes bust, and who settles on a fictitious island (loosely akin to St Michael's Mount) connected to mainland Cornwall by a causeway. Jenny Colgan does not hide the harsh side of life in a small fishing community, but this is a lovely warm book, complete with pet puffin.
