Nice,

This review is from: Shakira. (Deluxe Version) (Audio CD)
It's a nice album, but not her best. To me there are to much guitar songs. However, there are some really good songs on the cd: Medicine, Dare, Can't Remember To Forget You and Chasing Shadows. But I think Sale el Sol and She Wolf are better.

Shakira forever ...whenever, wherever, whatever,
This review is from: Shakira. (Audio CD)
Following 2010's "Sale el sol", Shakira returns with her new, self-titled album, marking a new beginning for her: it's her first album since becoming a mother, first for her new label, and first English since 2009. Her last two English albums, although succesful, proved mixed affairs as far as her personal objective was concerned: "She wolf" saw her sacrificing her latin flavour in favour of the glossy dancefloor diva that she transformed into; and the super-ambitious 2-disc "Oral fixation" opus nearly buried her vision because of its sheer volume.
This, her 10th solo record, is a reminder that beneath the global superstar there's heart and soul. It's her most personal effort in years, as she addresses the joy of new love from both her child and partner, sounding like she's reborn. Anthemic dance opener "Dare"'s mix of electronic backgrounds with brazilian beats, the explosive duet with Rihanna "Can't remember to forget you", the superb new single "Empire", an unlikely rock ballad, the beautiful retro-feel of "You don't care about me", "Cut me deep"'s reggae/ska rhythm, "Spotlight"'s power guitars, the delicately string-ladden "Broken record", "23"'s romantic minimalism, the universal love song "The one thing", and the closing "Loca por ti", homage to partner G. Pique, they're all standout tracks each in their own way. Unlike Britney's recent eponymous album that failed to live up to its expectations, "Shakira" is reminiscent of Beyonce's last name-titled record, presenting a remarkable balance between the artist and the person. This new offering may lack the lyrical depth and thematology of previous albums where she exhibited a unique flair for writing, still it's a lovingly made concentrated product, radiating confidence and maturity, made to appeal to every market. She's a pop star who can pull something great together through force of personality, and that's a mighty achievement. Her hips don't lie, neither her songs. Rating 7/10 - previous releases: "She wolf" (7), "Oral fixation" (7,5) "Laundry service" (8)

A very personal album with a very simple but heart-felt song selection. I love it. Some people may be expecting another hips don' lie but this is different, as all her albums always are. Shakira offers such a variety of music. Couldn't be happier.

As a fan of Shakira from her very beginnings, this album has left me wanting to listen to it again and again. It's still quintessentially Shakira, but definitely a lot more personal than we're used to, and I love that. For me personally, You Don't Care About Me is a highlight, as well as Loca Por Ti.
I really wish her all the best of success and happiness for this new era!

It is very difficult not to like Shakira. This new album in English is straight out of the old stable - typically Shakira. If you like her other work you will like this. I cannot think of one song on it that is not worth listening to. It is just another cracking album.
