Trade-In Programme Requirements Overview

The Amazon Trade-In Programme allows you to receive an Amazon.co.uk Gift Card in exchange for your eligible items. Participation is simple.

Here's how:
  1. Visit the trade-in store.
  2. Search for items eligible for trade-in.
  3. If your item is listed as eligible for trade-in and you wish to sell/exchange your item at the displayed price, then click the Trade In button to add items to your trade-in submission.
  4. Review the condition description for each item. Inspect each item thoroughly to check if it meets the condition criteria. Select the condition of your item. You can also review the information at the Trade-In Product Eligibility help page before submitting the trade-in.
  5. Make sure you read and agree to the Trade-In Programme Terms and Conditions, then click the Continue button.
  6. Select or enter an address from which you send your items. This address will also be used to return items that are not accepted.
  7. Select a delivery method from the available options: Royal Mail.
  8. Select a return option to either (i) accept a lower Gift Card amount or (ii) receive your item back, in the event your item is considered to be in a lower condition than what you specify. Review your delivery option, address, return option, trade-in items, quantities and total. Submit your trade-in.
  9. Send your items as described below under Packing and Sending Your Trade-In.
  10. After your submission is received and verified, you will receive an Amazon.co.uk Gift Card deposited in your account.

You can view your submission history, status and payment information in Your Trade-In Account.

Trade-In Limits

You can trade in multiple eligible items, with the following restrictions:

  • The total value of any single trade-in submission is up to £150. If you want to trade in items with a total value greater than £150, you'll need to make multiple trade-in submissions.
  • You can trade in up to a quantity of two identical items within any 3-month period. For example, if you submitted one copy of a video game on January 1 and you submitted one more copy of the same video game before March 31, then you can trade-in the third copy from April 1.

Packing and Sending your Trade-In

To send your items, you can use a single package or multiple packages depending on the number of items you are trading in. If you are using multiple packages, you can generate a separate delivery label (which also includes the packing slip) for each package. You should include a copy of the packing slip inside each package with your items, and affix the pre-paid Royal Mail label to the outside of the box.

Packaging Guidelines

Please make sure that you properly pack the items you are sending to help prevent loss or damage in transit. Guidelines on packing your trade-in items, are given below. Game controllers and heavier items should be packed carefully.

  1. Use small, sturdy boxes and ensure that you double tape the bottom and the top ends of the box.
  2. Pack your item or items in a box that will leave as little empty space as possible.
  3. You can fill any empty space in the box with foam, air pillows and/or full sheets of crumpled paper. This will help prevent the items from shifting around and being damaged or lost in transit.
  4. Use a good tape (e.g. a 2 inch strong tape) to pack the box securely. Apply at least 3 stripes to the top and bottom flaps of the box.

Please refer to the additional packaging guidelines at the following websites:

We recommend getting sufficient insurance for any trade-in you send, as Amazon is not responsible for goods that are damaged or lost in the mail.
Send your items only to the address printed on the label. Please do not send your item(s) to any other addresses. If you do, you will not receive an Amazon.co.uk Gift Card, and we cannot guarantee that we will be able to return your item(s) to you.

According to Royal Mail Packetpost instructions, it is recommend that all items are sent via the Post Office(TM), as all items will receive a proof of posting (which helps cover against fraud, and also without which you cannot claim for any loss or damage against Royal Mail). If posted in a pillar-box, the customer should be aware of having no proof of posting. To find your closest Post Office(TM) location, visit the branch finder or go to www.royalmail.co.uk and select 'branch finder'. We're constantly updating the trade-in programme with new titles. Please check back often to see what's been added.

Trade-in submissions sent via Royal Mail may take up to 6 business days to arrive before your submission is processed.

Note: Your trade-in package must be postmarked within 7 days of submitting your trade-ins. Items postmarked 7 days after submission may either be returned to you by the third-party merchant or accepted for the listed trade-in price.

Getting Paid for Your Trade-In

If your submission is accepted by the third-party merchant, an Amazon.co.uk Gift Card for the quoted amount will appear in your Amazon.co.uk account, generally within 2 business days. Your gift card payment is automatically added to the available balance on your account so you don't need to redeem any claim codes or wait for gift cards in the mail.

If you have not received your Amazon.co.uk Gift Card (or received your returned item, if rejected by the third-party merchant) within 30 days after you submitted your item, please contact Customer Service via phone or e-mail by clicking the Contact Us button on any Help page.

You can see your submission history, status, and payment information in Your Trade-In Account at http://www.amazon.co.uk/tradeinaccount.

Trade-in Price Conditions

You will only receive the price quoted (in Amazon.co.uk Gift Card value) for an item if:

  • The item meets the trade-in condition guidelines as described in Trade-In Product Eligibility.
  • You make your submission and print a mailing label while the price is still posted.
  • Your package is postmarked within 7 calendar days of submitting your trade-in.
  • Your items are verified and accepted by the third-party merchant.

Any submissions that do not meet these guidelines may be returned to you at no cost to you, and an Amazon.co.uk Gift Card for the quoted price will not be issued.
