The big question after the success of her "Femme Chocolat" album was - could Olivia Ruiz produce another album that good? For me, in the case of Miss Meteores, the answer is no. This time round, rather than gathering songs from various sources, she has written most of the material along with Mathias Malzieu, with the result that the material is less varied, and there aren't so may really outstanding songs.
Having said all that, there is a lot that is good on this album. The arrangements and production are superb with a clever blending of folk, rock, orchestral and even electronic instruments. Vocals are good, more mature than before, if perhaps less flamboyant. And there… Read more

Yes, as the other reviewer has said, there are adverts in the book (all for things related to either bird-watching or to gardening in some way) and the book is a bit expensive given the size. But I think the content is very good. It covers topics like chosing a bird-table, chosing food etc but best of all are the descriptions of all the most common garden birds - much better than in the 2 other books I've got on the same subject. About 60 types of bird are covered by the book. Each has a 2-page description (for some there is 3rd page covering an extra topic of interest). For each type there are excellent photos, a fact-sheet, a set of "Did you know" unusual facts, and a piece of text… Read more

I was amazed to see so many poor reviews of this book. This was probably the most I have enjoyed a book in the last year. I can understand what some reviewers have said about the characters not being engaging at the start of the book. The style is very chatty, and at first you only hear small snippets about each character, and so you build up a picture of them quite slowly. But I was still enjoying the book as an amusing satire of office life.
But for me the book changed into a different gear about half way through with the moving and thought-provoking incident which other reviewers have mentioned concerning the hospital appointment. From that point on I really had to know… Read more
