3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product but much cheaper options available hence rating.
I have given this product 3 stars and that is no reflection at all on the product quality or accuracy (unless you know a doctor it would be very difficult to confirm the accuracy) as it is a very good product supplied with required AA batteries a VERY indepth instruction manual and handy travel case however as my title suggests there is much much cheaper alternatives for...

The Omrom M6 Comfort Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor.

This is a substantial, desk top sized blood pressure monitor. It is not a toy or anything close and very similar in design and use to monitors I now see being used in GP;s surgeries. It arrives complete with case, cuff, batteries and a full instruction manual. This manual is a little intimidating at first with 288 pages until you realise it covers 9 languages and is actually very easy to follow.

Setting up the monitor is simple - fit the 4 AA batteries which are included in the box (nice touch) and set the date and time. This is important as the monitor will hold up to 100 readings in the memory by date and time and average results if required.

Usage instructions are easy to follow being step by step from fitting the cuff correctly, plugging in the air tube and operating the monitor. Several safety instructions are included which may be obvious to some but still worth reading. Inside the front and back covers of the manual are "fold out" diagrams which are referenced to pages in the instructions and so, easily understood.
The cuff is partially sprung to make self fitting easy and closed with the usual large velcro patch, The air tube is plugged into the monitor and switch on by pressing "Start". That's it, the rest is automatic. Once the cycle is completed the large display on the monitor (and I mean large) shows the blood pressure reading together with the pulse. There are other parts of the display which alert abnormal readings and an irregular heartbeat. These readings are stored in the memory and are available for recall for averaging and trends. This particular machine has the facility to accommodate two users and keep the readings separate.
Recovering these results is also easy by selecting "User 1" or "User 2" and pressing the appropriate tab..

My first thought was "is it accurate" and there is a passage in the instructions detailing the checks and calibrations these units get before sale and they can be re=calibrated by the supplier if it proves necessary. The warranty is a big three years so indications are that no problems should be experienced.
Then, what do the readings mean ? Not everyone understands what blood pressure readings mean so to help there are several notes to explain this Orange (for high or low) and Green (for normal) lights give you additional information on the reading but a quick on-line search will get you a simple chart for better guidance. All this will make it easy to understand what the readings mean.

So, it works well, is easy to use, has proved to be accurate, is well made, has great presentation of results and can be considered a very useful desk top monitor. However does it perform an important and useful function ? That I guess depends on how you use it and why. It does not replace the part of your GP in taking appropriate action about your health but it does give you an instant read-out of your condition and whether you need to take action to consult someone for medical treatment or advice. So long as you know what your blood pressure should be and you use the monitor regularly, you will be in a position to see any trends and take appropriate action before serious damage is done. Without this you will rely on that occasional visit to the GP and even if they check it for you will it mean anything ? Consider this, how many people have high blood pressure and don't know it ? How many people have a check done when they have rushed to an appointment, could not find a parking space resulting them being late and thus in a condition totally unsuitable to give a true blood pressure reading ? It happens more than you might think.
Checking your own blood pressure in the peace and quiet of your own home, at a time that suits you not only gives an accurate reading but done regularly will ensure a true history develops. If this is too high or too low - see your GP.

This monitor will do all you need, provide data for action or peace of mind. You decide whether that is important. I happen to think it is and so would highly recommend this unit especially if there are two potential users.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I had a lot of fun with this. This update to the original blood pressure machine accurately shows both your blood pressure both systolic and diastolic level of your blood pressure and i did test this very extensively both before and after swimming and before and after on a rollercoaster. The reason for this was to test after stress to my blood stream. This machine was incredibly accurate. I measured a distinct change in my blood pressure after swimming underwater for about an hour. The swimming actually relaxed my blood pressure after i thought it would go higher, especially after holding my breath underwater but or some reason it was relaxed. The rollercoaster however my blood pressure was through the roof. This is very accurate in it's readings with a comfortable and adjustable arm cuff. Surprisingly this didnt hurt THAT much like it does with the professional one you use in the Doctors surgery. This also allows you to read your progress by supplying you with a chart to well chart your progress from day to day. The details for the product are above in the product guide provided by amazon. so i dont really need to explain that. This is infinitely the BEST version of this machine on the market, pick one up today

This has been bought to replace a wrist monitor which up to now has achieved good and easy service.

However, as a result of heart problems that had, by chance, been identified on the wrist monitor I have undergone successful remedial hospital care. This is still on-going and, in the circumstances it seemed prudent to invest in the sort of monitor used by the hospital and by the GP.

Essentially it is arguable that I owe my life to the wrist monitor that my brother, a medical consultant, describes as a notoriously unreliable design of monitor compared to monitors which use an arm band such as this Omron monitor.

This Omron monitor is everything it claims to be and is very easy to use and delivers consistent results when its reliability and accuracy are checked with repeat readings in a short space of time. There is an excellent and fully detailed and illustrated instruction manual supplied plus batteries.

One cannot overestimate the value of such a device and, as one other reviewer has commented, it may well save your life. In addition to my brother, a friend who has a need to know blood pressure readings has also stressed the desirability of getting a monitor such as this instead of a wrist monitor.

I can only agree with this advice and this monitor by Omron seems excellent in every way. Highly recommended therefore.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
As was recently told my blood pressure was a bit high thought I'd better keep an eye on it which is why I go this fully automatic upper arm monitor. As the conventional ones are sometimes very painful this ensures that cuff inflates neither too tightly or too loosely. The dual check system ensures that the sensor performing the reading is checked by a second sensor to ensure greater accuracy. unique cuff wrapping guide icon shows when the cuff is wrapped correctly. The Comfort Cuff is a unique pre-formed cuff that can be adjusted to suit a variety of arm sizes and shapes. so found it very easy to use and can get results at an instant without having to wait for GP appointment.

This is a superior machine for checking blood pressure and recording the pulse. It is simple to use, in no small part, due to the shaped cuff which makes it easy to put on with one hand.
The instructions for its use are simple to follow. It has the facility to keep a record of the results taken over a period of time. It is also possible to record a second person's results as well.

My mother in law, a practising nurse, thinks it is a vast improvement on any other machine she has used and rates it highly.

I have given this product 3 stars and that is no reflection at all on the product quality or accuracy (unless you know a doctor it would be very difficult to confirm the accuracy) as it is a very good product supplied with required AA batteries a VERY indepth instruction manual and handy travel case however as my title suggests there is much much cheaper alternatives for the layman who just wants to see if there blood pressure (heart rate falls into the "normal" category. This product certainly has a lot of extra options like storing a back catalog of results for 2 seperate users (handy to prevent yours and your partners results getting mixed up) there is also a handy chart to manually record you results and see if your results fall into the "normal" category. As I said the product itself is very very good indeed with some very handy features but at almost 100 I cannot give it more than 3 stars when I can get a wrist cuff blood pressure monitor for under a tenner.
If you require all the features this unit boasts and don't mind paying the price then it is highly recommended but if you just wanna check your resting heart rate or generally keep an eye on your blood pressure then I recommend a trip to Home Bargains.

This worked perfectly on me but I purchased it for my wife and unfortunately we could not get it to give a reading. This was because the cuff had a pre-formed stiff plastic insert that was supposed to fit your arm. The cuff would not fit my wife as it was too long as well as too stiff, this resulted in the machine not being able to give readings. It is not possible to get a different cuff for this machine so we had to return this item and exchange it for a model with a soft cuff.

I bought the Omron M6 to replace my old M6 unit so I was familiar with the unit and its controls, once having mastered the different feel of the cuff I found it to be better than the old one, the instrument itself also indicated if the cuff was on correctly. I have found the whole unit to be first class having a good and clear display with several new elements of information available if needed.
