5.0 out of 5 stars Very good printer 15 Mar 2013

This is a mono laser printer which we bought to replace an old LaserJet 4P which had finally given up the ghost as HP no longer produced the toner for it. This is a quick, easy to use replacement, which we hope will last as long!

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb printer 9 Nov 2012
By Jon D
HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401dn is a superb printer. Start time is less than two seconds, very good speed as well. Print quality is excellent. The only drawback is that it did not come with a usb printer cable. I bought the printer from Amazon and they did not do a good job in handling my complain about not having given me the USB cable to connect it to the computer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Be warned this is not a wireless printer - 25 Nov 2012

HP's product range and model numbering system is ludicrously confusing. This is one of several models called Laserjet Pro 400 and it is one of several models called M401.

This one is the M401dn -which is not wireless, only the M401dnw is wireless. So why they still think it's appropriate to emblazen the packaging and marketing with "Airprint" and "ePrint" and "Now print from virtually anywhere in the world" I don't know. HP are really losing there way - the product range is baffling, even to a tech nerd and I've bought HP printers exclusively at work and at home for 20 years now.

HP's strategy is to have dozens of different model types all using the same packaging and instructions to save money. So the instructions to this printer even talk about wireless so that you are left to work out yourself that it is not wireless - the menu option just isn't there. They've also given up any effort on usability from what I can see. The Mac instructions on this printer are just a joke - they show a picture of a Mac as a tower circa 2002 and make no mention of what to do if you don't have a CD-Rom, despite so many Macs being sold without CD-Rom's for years.

I've returned this after wasting a Sunday morning and for the first time in 20 years I'm buying a different brand.
