My class loved this book. We drew our own pages for new numbers and found different ways to make the same number. A whole weeks work from one book. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fab for a teaching tool for algebra, 14 Jun 2011
This is a great tool for teaching algebra to young children. It is colourful and I have used it to teach from year three to six so far, it helps those children that just don't get algebra to visualise and work out just what symbols and images can represent.

5.0 out of 5 stars must have maths resource!!!!!, 17 Jan 2011
This review is from: One is a Snail, Ten is a Crab (Paperback)
I have had so many Maths professionals recommend this book and I finally tracked it down. An awesome story (you can read it to a class or to your child as a cute story) or a fantastic introduction to a numeracy session. Students could write their own versions of the book. You could focus on ways to make 10, 20 or 100. Can be extended to suit any number. A great way to demonstrate number patterns, skip counting or addition concepts. Apart from that a great picture story book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Clever Crabby Counting!, 26 Feb 2010
This review is from: One is a Snail, Ten is a Crab (Paperback)
An unusual counting and adding book that kids will love - I've bought several copies as gifts for friends' children over the years.
The large print and colourful illustrations make it easy reading for older kids.
Highly recommended!

I am a Leading Teacher of Mathematics and I have used this book a number of times for observed lessons. It's bright, colourful and the childrern respond well to it. It lends itself to follow up problem solving work.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great counting book that should be republished!, 31 Oct 2009
By
My 4yr old borrowed this from the library and I was so impressed we had to have our own copy. Most 1-10 counting books involve counting the same type of objects. This doesn't so it broadens the child's concept of counting. It also goes past 10, which a lot of books don't, introducing children to the concept of multiplication. Even my 8yr old enjoyed the book because of this.

It's very popular and subtly teaches counting in groups of 10 etc. My daughter enjoys it and asks for it to be read to her frequently.
