Once again, I really enjoyed this author, whose book is about the Commonwealth Games due shortly in Glasgow.

Alex is a local author who researches really extensively to give her books credibility.

4.0 out of 5 stars An easy read, 18 Mar 2014

I like the DS Lorimer series and this was an enjoyable, easy read with a couple of plot twists. The only thing that annoyed me was the role of MI 6. Domestic terrorism in the UK is in the hands of MI 5.

Alex Gray in her usual style. A great insight into the lives of police work in Scotland. DCI Lorimer at his best..

I did enjoy this DS Lorimer story, set in Glasgow in the months leading up to the Commonwealth Games. Everybody wants the Games to go ahead with the minimum of disruption, or do they? It is a very complex plot, with several strands to it, that eventually converge and all the pieces of the puzzle fall into place. The story takes place over several months, is gripping, full of danger, intrigue and some parts are quite disturbing. The story is well paced, it unfolds at a leisurely pace and there is a real sense of impending doom. There are a number of characters, who are all relevant to the plot, and I liked the way the story switched from character to character as it progressed.

However, I did feel that the last few chapters were a little rushed in relation to the build up. I could have done with a couple more just to round the story off properly, so that I saw some of the events, rather than being told about them. That having been said, it is a very enjoyable read indeed.
