3.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful film but disappointing and appallingly misleading 'extras'
Everyone else has raved about this film and I agree with all of that. The reason I've only given this a three star rating is because when I bought the disc I was really looking forward to the 'Making of Frozen' extra on the Blu-ray.
This description could not be more misleading. Instead of what would have been a fascinating insight into the development and production...

Frozen is a phenominon. It is a magical and emotional experience that will stay with you for days, weeks, months after you see it. It is by far the best Disney film since the likes of The Little Mermaid and The Lion King. Everything from the animation to the toe tapping musical numbers are breathtaking.

It is a heartwarming tale about sisterhood and the importance of family. Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell put in simply spellbinding performances as two sisters forced to grow up apart due to a terrible gift/curse. Menzels ensemble musical piece "Let It Go" deserves a Grammy because it is just so so so good.

I cannot recommend this film enough. Kids will love it due to Oalaf the hilarious wisecracking snowman and adults will appreciate the romance and love in the unbreakable ties asociated with family and sisterhood.

Buy Frozen and keep it forever!

This review is from: Frozen [DVD] (DVD)
This is an impressively BEAUTIFUL film, with very endearing characters, solid scenario, fun moments for little ones, good dialogs, impressive images, nice music and one simply unbelievably POWERFUL song, the "Let it go!".

This film was inspired by Hans Christian Andrsen magnificent story the "Snow Queen", published the first time in 1845, but it is only a distant inspiration - the story in the film has very little in common with this classic bittersweet treat. In fact it is a completely different tale, about two princesses, Elsa, the wise but sad elder sister and Anna, the impulsive, merry but a little bit foolish (at least initially) younger one. The sisters love one another dearly, but early in their childhood dire circumstances (and a REALLY stupid advice) erected a wall between them - and in fact also a wall between Elsa and all the rest of the world... And the day this wall unavoidably collapses, well, Elsa will "let it go" - and all hell will break lose! I will say here nothing more about the story.

My 12 year old daughter simply adored this film. My 4 year old daughter liked it too, although she didn't exactly understand the story, but she was quite happy with the snowman Olaf (lots of giggling), the OTHER snowman who was not Olaf (lots of pretending to be afraid), the reindeer Sven ("daddy can I have a reindeer?"), the carrots (an important element of the film), the songs and the beautiful images.

Me, I was absolutely impressed by the visual aspect of this film, the clever dialogs and this INCREDIBLE "Let it go!" song, which is I believe the best musical cinema moment I had since "The circle of life" in "Lion King". And also I was absolutely impressed with the character of Elsa - we can clearly see there a John Lasseter's touch in the scenario, a little bit similar to the "corrected image of typical Disney princess" he already offered us in "Brave" and "Tangled".

This film teaches us many things, including two crucially important warnings for parents:

- if you have a child with issues, do not take advice from a troll! Or at least get also a second opinion!
- if you have one child with issues AND therefore also a vulnerable sibling, BOTH of you should not take stupid risks, because those children need at least one of you to live and be there for them!

The ending is may be just a little bit weaker than one could expect, but after all it is a film for kids and it was appropriate for the young public. Still, this is a minor point and honestly, if "Frozen" doesn't win the Oscar for Best Animated Film and "Let it go!" doesn't take the Oscar for best original song, it will mean there is no justice in this world... UPDATE IN MARCH 2014: well, it seems that there is still some justice left in this world...

This is a great film, to watch absolutely on the big screen, as long as it still plays in theatres - and later, I advise to buy this one on Blu-ray, because here the quality of picture is REALLY important and every pixel counts. ENJOY!

A delightful tale adapted from a 'Hans Christian Anderson' ~'The Snow Queen'~
'Elsa' has unusual powers everything she touches turns to ice, she has absolutely
no idea how to control them.
Because of a 'chilly' accident 'Elsa' and her younger sister are kept apart within the
palace down the years by order of their father 'The King'
After the loss of both parents during a storm at sea, 'Elsa' is set to become Queen,
however after the ceremony her powers are exposed startling all in attendance.
The new Queen runs away, not by intention as she runs she creates an eternal
winter throughout the Kingdom.
'Anna' with the help of local mountain man 'Kristoff' and reindeer 'Sven' set out to
find 'Elsa' who is trapped within her icy world.
It will be a perilous journey but one that 'Anna' is prepared to take to save her sister.
However there is a wicked plot afoot.........
'Disney' magic again brought to the screen in this computer generated animation
adventure.
A MUST FOR KIDS OF 'ALL' AGES.
A genuinely enjoyable family friendly tale.(You'll love the Characters in the tale)
(The music from the film available on CD)
Great viewing in both it's 3D and 2D versions, superb picture and sound quality
throughout.

5.0 out of 5 stars 3d little disappointing, extras are a waste - but a 5 star film., 8 Jan 2014
Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
i enjoyed the film/music probably more than my 5yr old daughter so went for the fancy/expensive 3D version. Whether it's worth paying the extra..probably not. The 3D works ok but I was left feeling a little disappointed in that perhaps more could of been coming out of the screen so to speak. Unlikely to view it again 3D.

Also the extras - well i knew we werent getting much from the off - but it is pretty lame to say the least. Really would of expected A LOT more.

Did note that Elsa in particular looked a little too like Gollum with the big eyes though. Clearly the animation, characters even horse came from the same stable as Tangled but these princesses just didn't match up to Rapunzal.

These quibbles aside, the film is fantastic, leave aside all the plotholes etc and just enjoy the beautifully crafted ride. Terrific movie from start to finish including the music. Disney at it's best have no doubt.

Disney's 52nd 'classic' so it states on the box...52 classics not having that. But this one certainly deserves to be in amongst it's top 3.

Everyone else has raved about this film and I agree with all of that. The reason I've only given this a three star rating is because when I bought the disc I was really looking forward to the 'Making of Frozen' extra on the Blu-ray.
This description could not be more misleading. Instead of what would have been a fascinating insight into the development and production of this wonderful movie we get a stupid song three minute song that just repeats 'How did they make Frozen? and ends with the punchline 'We don't know'. To add insult to injury apparently this has been on YouTube for ages.
The other extras are pretty poor too, the only input from the directors is looking at old sketches of a Walt Disney Snow Queen RIDE, yes, theme park ride. It appears they didn't look at any of this before the movie was finished, so it had no influence on the film. The deleted scenes are interesting but just storyboard pictures. And that's pretty much it.
Could and should have done better Disney, I'm disappointed that so little effort has been put in to support the disc of such an amazing film.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! an absolute must for all Disney fans!!, 22 Dec 2013
This review is from: Frozen [DVD] (DVD)
Up there with Tangled, this took my breath away on the big screen. My girls (4 and 5) and I have since been watching songs from the movie on line and have pre-ordered this to add to our Disney collection as soon as it is released! Very funny in parts and I'm sure little boys would enjoy this movie too with its snow giant, trolls and the unforgettable Olaf character. Disney at its best!

5.0 out of 5 stars An instant Disney classic, 9 Dec 2013
By
Luke (London, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Frozen [DVD] (DVD)
Simply put, 'Frozen' is a masterful family film. It's a sharp and endearing musical that will make you remember exactly why you used to fall in love with the old Disney classics as a child.

Very roughly based on the fairy tale `The Snow Queen', `Frozen' tells the story of two princesses in the kingdom of Arendelle who become embroiled in adventure when their town becomes trapped in a state of endless winter. Voiced by Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel, the two princesses mark a refreshing change of pace for the traditional Disney Princesses. Both smart and funny, these are (for once) princesses who aren't defined by their love interests. Indeed, the film is first and foremost about their relationship with each other.

The roster of supporting characters is varied and entertaining, with the highlight being a charmingly clueless snowman named Olaf, whose dream is to see summer for the first time. The film also features a reindeer who, despite never speaking, still manages to steal a good number of scenes. The plot is fairly standard fare as far as Disney goes, but the occasional twist and surprise helps keep things fresh.

This is the first true musical that Disney have produced in a long while. Packed with imaginative and memorable songs, this'll have you recalling the glory days of `Beauty and the Beast' and `The Lion King'. Out of the generous handful of musical numbers the film offers, the best is the powerful ballad `Let It Go' which will stick with you long after the credits roll.

As appealing for children as it will be for adults, this film is a real return to form for Disney. `Frozen' is funny, smart, charming and feels truly timeless. I can't praise it highly enough.
