2.0 out of 5 stars A fun read, 5 April 2009
This review is from: The Lipstick Killers (Hardcover)
When Queenie Doyle died in 1989, it not only brought an end to the Doyle rule over South London gangland, but the Dolye family. The four daughters don't just grow apart in sentiment but also in distance. Baby sister Roxie is living it up on the Costa Del sol, Mags has, alienated herself totally from the family by of all things, joining the police Force. Eldest sister Frankie had stifled her own dreams by looking after the younger girls. And Sharon has married an Accountant and moved to Suburbia.

Then Monty is killed in a car accident, when his car goes off the road in heavy rain. To support their sister the girls come together to support Sharon. But when Sharon starts receiving odd phone calls asking `where's the money' Mags looks closer at the accident and asks - was it an accident?

There is no doubt the girls are fun. The image that comes across is of girls in their underwear toting sub-machine guns, and kicking arse. I think that it comes more under the heading of caper novel, and they are always fun.

I felt that the ending was weak, but in all it was a fun read.

Not the same violence as Martina Cole but the same compelling story which I couldn't put down. Little predictable but still really enjoyed it.

I gave it a four star rating for the good story line. I think the sisters characters were great but hard to believe that they could do so much and get away with it, may be one of them but not all and surely the police would follow-up on one of their own men. I would still recommend this to friends
