Right from a young boy I've always been fascinated by the Mississippi River, its paddle steamers and the Deep South so I found this great viewing. It touches on all sorts of subjects and places. It's a wonderful geography and history lesson and you get to share it with the amiable yet so professional Trevor McDonald.
The River stretches some 2,500 miles from the Gulf of Mexico right up to the border of Canada - quite incredible.
It starts in New Orleans with its bustling musical charm and takes in the Katrina catastrophe. Its then on to the Atchafalaya swamps, then the slave trade and the opulence of the plantation owners. This is my favourite part but the rest is no less interesting and on the way up the river you'll bump into Elvis, Martin Luther King, Mark Twain and also Morgan Freeman. You see not only the beauty and power of the river but visit some very impressive & beautiful cities on route. There are many other surprises as well!
This is two hours of top entertainment, all laid out for you in `guided tour' fashion. It's thoroughly absorbing and very highly recommended.
