HP 301XL High Yield Colour Ink Cartridge

So the sample cartridges that came with my HP Deskjet 3050 All-in-One Printer lasted all of five minutes, so I thought I'd go for the "High Yield" XL cartridges. While swapping them over I noticed that both the standard and XL cartridges are exactly the same size and shape (why wouldn't they be, they have to fit the same space?).

This got me on to thinking, I wonder how many "standard" cartridges HP would sell if they labelled them as what they are: 40% full (based on an XL cartridge giving 2.5x more use). Furthermore, it's a shocking waste of resources for HP to manufacture and ship their less-than-half-full standard cartridges in the name of consumer choice.

In short, don't ever buy the rip-off standard cartridges, buy the XL and force HP into discontinuing the 60% air version. Thankfully, at Amazon prices, the XL will only cost the same as the rip-off version at your local supermarket.

My HP Deskjet 3050A came up with an error message when I put in this new cartridge
"Remove & Replace with Genuine HP Replacement Cartridge"
It then would not print any documents.
Tried removing and replacing got another message "Incompatible Tri Colour Cartridge"
As you may gather I was not too impressed and sent it back.

Update. A replacement was sent installed and this time the message was "Tricolour Genuine HP Cartridge is installed"
I expect that rather than the first error message being correct it was just a faulty cartridge.
I have since been told that it is advisable with all error messages regarding cartridges to remove the power cable from the back of the printer , wait 30 minutes and then plug in and start the printer. This may well solve it assuming you have tried re-seating and cleaning the contacts with distilled water and drying thoroughly.

We received this quickly and the inks have lasted well. I still can't believe how expensive inks are becoming, but at least we have made a saving here. I think it is better to stick to the correct inks and make sure there are no problems.

Delivery was quick, does exactly what it should and has certainly lasted longer than the standard 301. Best price so far also.

the service was good i got my ink within a week during the double bank holiday in April/may. it was in mint condition on arrival and i will be using this company again

Received the cartridges within Three days no problems at all good price excellent service, they even included a freepost return bag for old used cartridges.

I have tried refills but find they don't last. This is a good price for a genuine HP product and lasts well.

Arrived as promised. Good product but why must the 2 cartridges (black & tri colour) cost far more than the printer. I think it will be a cheaper option next time.

The HP301XL cartdridge is good value. Just changed my cartridge in the printer and I am sure it will last a long time and the resulting printing is good.

Sold at a reasonable price - received the goods quickly. Reason for the purchase - I'd heard that the cartridge lasts longer than the regular ones. Appears to be performing well so far!
