5.0 out of 5 stars Rexel Style + Confetti Cut Shredder
Good design, I expect that from Rexel and it doesn't disappoint. I have had two shredders both cheap and the difference shows. What's different for me is that the paper shreds drop to the bottom of the bin and are nice clean cuts, my cheaper variants, whilst cross-cutters tended to bulk up the paper shreds, this meant I was constantly emptying or compressing the paper,...

Bought my Wife this shredder for Xmas. She used it for a few minutes and then it stopped working. Problem was a paper jam. She had fed the machine no more than 2 sheets at a time and it still jammed. Good design, I expect that from Rexel and it doesn't disappoint. I have had two shredders both cheap and the difference shows. What's different for me is that the paper shreds drop to the bottom of the bin and are nice clean cuts, my cheaper variants, whilst cross-cutters tended to bulk up the paper shreds, this meant I was constantly emptying or compressing the paper, this unit is totally different.

It's stylish and easy to use. I am extremely pleased with it. It cuts paper and staples and clips and credit cards.

the paper bin slides out from the side and it has a window so you can see if it's full, with other makes you have to lift an often heavy motor unit off the bin to empty them, so another good design feaure, added no need to oil the cutters.

Overall an excellent product with a 2-year warranty.

Fantastic product. Shreds really well into confetti pieces. A little noisy but not really a problem unless you want a quiet shredder. Large container for shredded pieces so no need to empty too often if this is a domestic product. Looks pretty cool too!

5.0 out of 5 stars nice little shredder for your every day needs, 22 Oct 2011

we needed to buy a shredder because we wanted to be able to destroy paper work with sensitive information on it, things like bank statements, insurance policies, etc...after reading many reviews of a few different shredders we finally decided on this one. i have read a few statements that said the shredder overheats easily. however, we have just shredded a whole bag of paperwork and the shredder had no problems with it.

the specifications read that it can handle max. 7 sheets at once. yes, but that doesn't mean that you really have to feed it 7 sheets at once. if you are sensible about it, feeding it 3/4 sheets you can already hear that he is fighting with them. so why would you push the poor little thing over the edge by feeding it more? just keep nice simple, don't overfeed it too many sheets at once and give it a bit of break in between a continuous shredding session and you'll be just fine.

Bought my Wife this shredder for Xmas. She used it for a few minutes and then it stopped working. Problem was a paper jam. She had fed the machine no more than 2 sheets at a time and it still jammed. Reversing the motor didn't free up the jam either. When I looked at it you could hear the motor working in the forward or reverse direction but the teeth on the cutting wheel weren't moving. I decided to pull it apart in the hope of freeing up some of the paper and getting everyhting working again. After 30minutes the machine was apart and any paper removed. However, the problem was that between the motor and the cutting wheel were a bunch of gears. Some were metal and some were plastic. Basically what had happened was that the worm gear straight from the motor was made of metal and meshed with another worm gear but this was made of plastic. A portion of the plastic worm gear had it's teeth worn off and couldn't bedriven any more. Obviously the paper jam had stopped the cutting wheel from moving. The motor didn't stop when the jam was detected (like it should have) and the motor continued to turn it's metal worm gear against the non-moving plastic worm gear resulting in it being worn down. This is poor design putting metal gears to drive plastic gears as in a high torque device such as the shredder it's obvious the plastic gears are going to get worn out. Didn't think it would take just a few minuites though.

Still the machinhe does look nice even if it doesn't work anymore.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great shredder and does NOT require oiling. Does not accept staples or paperclips., 11 Jan 2009

It does what it's supposed to do, gives a consistent cross-cut shred so you're left with inch-long strips, even accepts credit cards, but doesn't do staples or paper clips, and according to the manual should only be used for three minutes of continuous shredding at a time. Shreddings might make good hamster bedding!

One thing to be aware of is that the instructions explicitly state that this shredder does not require and should not be oiled; I wasn't aware of this so bought the oil at the same time (as suggested by the Amazon product page for this shredder) and then found out from reading the instructions that I'd bought the oil unnecessarily. **Do NOT buy oil for this shredder!**

Looks pretty stylish and is easy to empty and move around thanks to large hand-holes. Don't be misled by the photo though - it's purely a black and white product, there are no yellow parts to it. ;-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Neat and fast, 17 Aug 2012

This review is from: Rexel Style Plus Confetti-Cut Shredder (Office Product)
I needed to replace my small home-office shredder, and after comparing various Amazon reviews, chose this one because; (a) it scored highest when comparing the ratio of its 5*+4* reviews total to its 1* reviews total, (b) it has a 3-minute maximum continuous use limit, where many of its competitors have only a 2-minute limit and (c) it has a 2-year warranty where most competitors have only a 1-year. I ordered this on Saturday night, it was delivered by mid-day Monday and I had cleared my 18-month shredding backlog by Monday tea-time - filling 1-1/2 black bin liners. Well done Amazon and Yodel for the very quick delivery.

In use I found this shredder quite fast and not too noisy. It does struggle on 7 sheets - but how often do you need to do that? In practice it is actually quicker to feed in 4-5 sheets at a time so that the shredder does not slow down - a "little and often" approach. This also helps not to overheat it - mine cut out a couple of times during my marathon session when I tried maximum loads, so one needs to observe the 3-minute maximum on continuous use. Anyway, the bin is nicely full after a 3-minute session, so you have to stop then to empty it. Doing this, and keeping the feed down to a lower level, works just fine and allows you to keep going for a long time.

A nice feature when this shredder does overheat is that, once it has cooled down, it will restart automatically to let you know that it is ready again (provided that you have left it switched on to Auto with some paper still in the slot). The cooling-off period varies, depending on how hot it got - in my case between 10 - 20 minutes.

The overall design is perhaps rather twee, but I like the pull-out bin instead of the more usual lift-the-head-off style. The bin is quite easy to handle for emptying, but as others have noted, it needs to be replaced fully, otherwise the shredder will not work. I do find the On/Off switch fiddly to use - other shredders I have owned were much easier in this respect - so I deduct 1/2* from the perfect score for this = 4-1/2*

Finally, does anyone know why Rexel are different in insisting that this shredder should not be oiled - all others I have used ask for oiling of the cutters at regular intervals.

1.0 out of 5 stars Lightly used for a few months then died., 8 Nov 2011

Bought this earlier on in the year, only using it once a month to shred credit card statements, one page at a time. Stopped working after a few months. Didn't even manage to fill the shredder tray once.

Very pleased! I wanted a shredder with a front-loading bin as I had one previously that you had to remove the top to empty the bin. I didn't like that type for various reasons. If there was anything I could fault with this product, and this is very minor really, it would be (1) that the bin doesn't quite click back into place if there are any bits of paper around the machine when replacing it, and (2) it does NOT shred more than about 4 pieces of paper together, but for the price...what do you expect! I would buy this product again (and I am a fussy person!) For the price, it does it's job!

I have found that the Rexel shredder is perfect for the home security shredding, i.e. personal letters and addresses. Especially the cross cutting type. It also does not block up as the previous one did. I would definitely recommend it.

Terrible purchase. After less than 5 minutes use it jammed on 7 sheets. I spent hours trying to clear the jam and once cleared it still would not work (it makes a noise but the blades do not move, as many other reviewers have described) This machine should be taken off the market.
