Sonos PLAY:1 White - The Wireless Hi-Fi

Finally a sub-£200 Sonos unit that helps me think about those rooms where a Play:3 or Play:5 would be too expensive to justify and not have to use cheaper speaker docs etc.

The unit sounds fantastic - I doubt they'll sell many Play:3's now. I have a Play:5 that I'm actually thinking of selling to fund 2x Play:1's as I think that having more stereo separation in a room is better than the extra bass you get from the Play:5 over the Play:1.

I bought this along with a free Sonos BRIDGE and the quality is terrific. It was all very easy to set up (just plug the bridge into your router with the supplied ethernet cable and follow the instructions in the Sonos Controller app) and easy to point the controller at internet radio stations as well as my music server. The sound quality is excellent and certainly a quantum leap over the average Bluetooth speaker and phone/tablet combination.

yes its a little pricey but well worth it , mega loud bass is awesome makes the room sound like a bar!!!

This is an excellent speaker,the price is a bit hefty but well worth the cash. I was worried that the sound wouldn't justify the price tag, I needn't have worried.

I already have a play 5 in the kitchen which my wife uses along with practising on her saxophone and a play 3 in the living room , I have had to turn off the loudness in the play 3 for fear for my neighbour's sanity :-) .

I was still needing a unit for my bedroom for use whilst mucking about upstairs,the play 1 is amazing,great sound ,great discreet speaker , doesn't look cheap and is surprisingly heavy for it's size.

I had to turn the loudness of yet again as at 50 percent volume the bass is amazing,but since I have neighbour's like most people do then I had to curb the bass.

This speaker would be great in a teenagers room, loud enough with just one speaker,if you had 2 the sound would be amazing but would drive parents and neighbours crazy with bass and volume.

Don't hesitate,just buy one. You won't regret it.

I bought two Play:1 speakers to use as a stereo pair. As they are wireless and include the bridge I expected (wrongly) that the system would have good compatibility with popular apps - this is not the case. It is great for streaming from Amazon Cloud Player using my iPhone 5 but most of the other apps that I use such as Sky Go, BBC iPlayer, YouTube etc are NOT supported. So basically all you can listen to is compatible streaming apps which is very limiting.

My next idea was to see if I could connect the TV but I was thoroughly disappointed to find that there is NO line in on the Play:1!! To be fair this information is avaiable in the specification but I was misled by the picture of the unit which looks like it has a line in socket on the back - this is actually a wall mount point :-( The Sonos bridge also does not have line in. So unless you buy the Sonos Connect (or Play:5 or Playbar) you DO NOT have line in functionality. The Sonos connect is almost as expensive as the price of two speakers and therefore questionable whether it is worth buying just to get line in. Line in is pretty much standard on ANY amplifier/speaker product I have ever bought and therefore I am shocked that it is not included on a product of this price.

The overall product functionality is actually much worse then my old (excellent quality) analog amplifier with a bluetooth adaptor plugged into the auxillary socket.

If you are planning to buy this product with high expectations on flexibility then please make sure that you read the specification carefully and be aware of what cannot be done! I am extremely disappointed.

I have never written a review before, but this item made me put my sausage fingers to keyboard. This won't be an in-depth review of the product as there are plenty of them on amazon. However, I wanted something different and compact to go in our kitchen and I did my research and asked everyone I knew and the same answer was the same...... get a SONOS! I wanted the PlayBar but for £600 I thought nah. so I opted for the PLAY: 1 and it really is as good as the reviews say it is. It's a lot of dosh but if you are into your music get one. Yeah ok you cant play CD's or whatever but the sound that comes from such a small speaker is tremendous and at full volume ( which is pretty loud) there's no distortion, and the bass although for me could be deeper and richer, is great. (I believe the play 3 and 5 have a richer sound) Ok there are the purists who will spend thousands on speakers alone who may differ on this review, but all I will end with is that when the lounge gets done as has the kitchen I will get the play bar, 2 x play 1's, and a subwoofer.......... that's going to be one hell of a room. ENJOY!

very good as single speaker, awesome as a pair linked to a playbar. have two but plan on getting more to fill other rooms

Amazing quality sound form such tiny boxes. These are great, they're a bit of an indulgence, but the most affordable way into the Sonos world - I'm hooked!
Installation was incredibly simple for a 'technical' product, the start up was effortless. The only draw back I've come across is that it seems that it's only possible to add a single account for various music services. This sounds trivial but in your average household it's now entirely commonplace to have multiple accounts, I have one Amazon Cloudplayer account, my wife has another. It's not the end of the world - I have all the MP3s on a server - but it does seem out of step with the way people access their digital media.

They've barely been switched off since I opened the boxes!

This really is a fantastic piece of kit. As many people have said, don't let the size fool you! I was tempted to go all out for the play 3 or 5, but with an ever-tightening budget I went out and bought the Play 1 while I had the spare cash.

It's powerful enough to fill my master bedroom, and clear enough to blast at a very high volume without losing sound quality. One thing I would recommend is adjusting the bass and treble levels (which is very easily done remotely). I find increasing the treble to around 80% and lowering the bass to around 40% gives the ideal balance for me, but I suppose this is mainly down to personal preference.

Unless your'e trying to fill an enormous room , or multiple rooms, with huge sound, I see no reason to pay out more for the play 3 or 5, but again this is down to personal choice. I'm sure the other two are excellent as well. Looking to buy another play 1 to pair up in my bedroom for surround sound!

I got this speaker for my studio apartment and could not be happier with it.

Extremely easy to set up, took seconds and I was streaming all of my music straight from my phone.

The sound quality is great too, really fills the flat.
