Product Description

George Clooney and Sandra Bullock star in this sci-fi thriller directed by Alfonso Cuarón. Seasoned astronaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney) is on his final mission in space, while medical engineer Dr. Ryan Stone (Bullock) is making her first outing on the Space Shuttle. While they are engaged in extra-vehicular activity, debris collides into the shuttle, damaging it irreparably. Kowalsky and Stone now find themselves drifting in space with low oxygen supplies and cut off from all communication on Earth. They work together in their attempt to survive but will they make it back to solid ground?

5.0 out of 5 stars talk about the worst first mission ever 12 Nov 2013
Format:Blu-ray
Went to see this movie the other night on impulse and without knowing anything at all. Not a huge fan of either of the leads but for some reason i just had this idea in my head that it would be worth it. I had no idea what i was in for but i treated myself to an IMAX ticket. I sat down and got comfly with some popcorn...

The start sequence is so amazing and probably one of the only place for you go grab a breath before all hell breaks loose, literally. By the time the movie was over i had not even touched my pop corn and had almost torn the arm of the chair from the tension. My heart was racing but i was smiling my head off and wanted to watch it all over again. I could have watched another 5 hours of this movie yet it was perfect the length it is.

I am simply dazzled and amazed by the work that went in by everyone involved in making this, there were no short cuts or cheap shots. the acting is beyond the call of duty and must have been such a mind job. Bullock is outstanding and deserves a massive reward for her performance. Clooney just stole my heart from the beginning and fit into his role nice and snug.

Seriously, do yourself a favour and treat yourself to watching this superb movie with a huge screen and roaring sound that shakes the ground. I am most certainly going to see this again. Then im getting the bluray.

4.0 out of 5 stars In space, no-one can hear you nit-pick 9 Nov 2013
Format:Blu-ray
There's been so much hype and media exposure surrounding Alfonso Cuaron's new film, that it's difficult to resist half forming an opinion on Gravity even before you see it. Personally, I am a great fan of Cuaron's work, particularly 'Children of Men', a film so full of humanity and tense, realistically filmed action scenes, that I believe it to be an underrated masterpiece.

While I don't think Gravity quite reaches those heights, there is so much to be in awe of; the fine performances of the two leads Sandra Bullock and George Clooney; some truly tense, sweaty action and a visual verve and style to rival that of 2001: A Space Odyssey. This is not an empty headed action film, and moments of tenderness are well placed and vital to the story line and it's overall message. I particularly admire Cuaron's dedication to making a realistic space film, with an audio track that despite all the crashing together of debris is mostly bereft of sound except for the voices of the astronauts over their suit radios, and Steven Price's dramatic score.

Bullock plays Dr Stone, an astronaut on her first mission aboard the shuttle Explorer. While performing maintenance on the Hubble Telescope along with experienced astronaut Matt Kowalski (Clooney), they receive a radio transmission from Houston warning them of a cloud of debris, caused by a Russian missile strike on their own defunct satellite. While destroying everything in its path, the fast travelling debris causes a chain reaction as it smashes into other satellites. The debris crashes into Explorer shortly after, leaving equipment mangled and the astronauts stranded in space with only a slim chance of returning to Earth. Travelling at 20,000 miles per hour, Kowalski calculates the cloud will return to the same point in 90 mins.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let it unfold... And prepare to be amazed! 8 Nov 2013
By Lola
Format:Blu-ray
I did not know anything about "Gravity" the film but the fact that the two astronauts are adrift and surviving in space. From the first moments until the credits started to roll I was sucked in, amazed, scared, stunned, frightened, thrilled, and sitting on the edge of my seat! The film is fantastic, and, starring not my favourite actors, I was astonished how well-done and well-acted this film is. It is a heart-achingly affectionate exploration of human relationships, trust, survival and the miracle of people being alive, as well as being a superb modern space thriller.

"Gravity" is a blockbuster that somehow feels personal, for the lack of super-humans, for the amazing superb special effects that somehow feel natural, for the great and utterly believable acting by Sandra Bullock, a solemn space mission specialist, and experienced tongue-in-cheek mission captain George Clooney. There is lyricism, closeness and intimacy of the two human beings, and the big, dark, beautiful and utterly scary and eerie outer space, pulling them in, one human-being at a time.

Please do not read the synopsis of the film, but go and see "Gravity" in the cinema, to be totally blown away. This is definitely the film, a battle against elements, against odds, to be enjoyed on a big screen, in 3D.

Almost for the first time in my life, I am actually thinking of going to see this film in the cinema again, for the amazing cinematography and sheer pleasure of viewing experience. The sights are better than in a planetarium. But the film is so much more than just the views.

One minor thing - it felt a bit tiring, one thing after the other going wrong and wrong again, but nevertheless, I loved this film! Loved it!

3.0 out of 5 stars DID YOU FIND THE VODKA? 3 Nov 2013
By The Movie Guy TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
The title of the film is "Gravity" because it has a twofold meaning, i.e. the gravity of the situation.

I found the film boring. Sure the view was stunning. Great sets. Great actors. But seriously, what did you expect would happen after disaster struck? One of two things were going to happen: Either they were going to survive or they won't. The film is consumed with us getting to that point. Sandra Bullock in a space suit reading a tech manual trying to figure out what button to push. Real? Authentic? Sure, but so was my yawn.

The visual effects are great on the big screen. I will be honest.

What the film really needed was a big rubber headed alien to save them and probe their privates. Sure, I would have complained about that too, but at least I would have stayed awake.

BTW I loved 2001 because it mentally engaged me. This one did not because I knew one of two things were going to happen...

Parental Guide: Bullock lets loose one early F-bomb after a few S***s didn't suffice.

3 Stars is generous. Like "Prometheus", I think most people over rate it because they are supposed to like it.
