My wife needed a new keyboard, and just at the right time, this appeared on the vine. Contrary to some of the other reviews here, it is actually quite good. It is Amazon Basics, so if you expecting top quality, look elsewhere. We have both found the action of the keys fine, not noisy or loose, and the angle is just fine on the desk. 3.0 out of 5 stars Functional and average - Basic!
After using a lot of AmazonBasic cables to connect our home entertainment systems I think that I was expecting too much from this keyboard. Whereas an HDMI cable doesn't need to be pretty, it just needs to work well, a keyboard is something that you spend a lot of time interacting with, making it subject to closer scrutiny.

The keyboard is lightweight and...

My own Microsoft keyboard is no more adjustable, so I don't see an issue. Remember, read the word "Basics", and put your expectations in perspective.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice neat keyboard. What a reasonable price!, 7 Jan 2014

I had worn out some of the keys on my previous keyboard and had been painting in the letters on it with Tippex! Decided to try and buy a new one, thinking they would probabaly be quite pricey. How on earth Amazon manage to sell a basic and very adequate keyboard for such a reasonable price is beyond me. Wish I had got one ages ago now.

I wanted a keyboard that did just what a keyboard should. I figured that 'Amazon Basics' would be the best value to buy from Amazon and I was right. This keyboard is neat, the keys have a nice action, you could not get better for the price. Really pleased!

This keyboard is simply amazing and outstanding for the price!!
Only a tenner corrr! This is brilliant
I got it in the post on time so that's all good, it came in a amazon logo'd carboard box so it couldn't be damaged inside at all, I opened the box to find this lovely long slim profile keyboard inside, it actually looks pretty expensive despite the actual price, after taking it out a plastic sleeve, it had the see through sticky plastic on it , oOooo everyone loves peeling that off on glossy technical stuff don't they?!? And I peeled it off nice and gently exposing the high gloss expensive looking feature of this keyboard, plugged it in and ready to go, no problems what so ever, thanks amazon :D Can't go wrong at this price! And not nice to troll and say it doesn't work guys >:(

I type between 6 and 8 hours a day and I needed a new keyboard. I can't believe that this one was so cheap. It it a full-sized keyboard. Very easy to work with for long hours. The keys are very responsive and spaced away from each other.

Very happy with this purchase and would definitely recommend this keyboard to anyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Basic is the word, 11 Jun 2013

This is indeed basic but it is dirt cheap and very light, which suits me. Not sure how long it will last: the keys and pad are very thin. Might have been better to get a regular keyboard from a charity shop for a couple of quid but I couldn't wait. Loved the packaging: it got through the letterbox, so the postman didn't ring twice ...

A good basic well built keyboard which for the price is a good buy, if you are expecting a slickly designed keyboard then you are going to be disappointed.

This Amazon Basics keyboard doesn't look too basic - apart from the "Amazon Basics" logo printed quite promintently above the curser keys!

There are lots of keyboards out there, from awful thick plastic monsters to slimline OLED illuminated keys you can customise - this basics model is squarely aimed at those not wanting anything too fancy, but something which can still do the job well. It performs well, the keys don't protrude too much and are generously spaced. I have freakishly long fingers and often whack the key either side of the one I intended to press, but my mis-hits were very infrequent with this model and it feels very comfortable to use.

This is surprisingly nice looking, I have used more `solid' keyboards which are heavy and feel very `plasticky' and this keyboard is glossy black, slimline and with rounded off keys. It is angled for comfort (though I would like to be able to angle it further) and has a very long lead so you don't have to too tethered to your machine. The shortcut keys work fine straight-out-of-the-box on my Windows 7 machine but not on my Mac. That isn't an issue though as I never really use short cut keys (I work on so many machines I've simply never got used to doing so, each keyboard is different!).

In a nutshell: It might not be all singing and dancing, but it's not that bog-standard either and it's prettier than you might expect. 4 stars from me and for less than a tenner you can't really go wrong.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does the job for less than a tenner., 14 May 2013

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I can't imagine that anyone will be buying into the Amazon Basics range expecting to receive a high-end top of the range product?

My expectation is always that I will receive some cheap rubbish, and actually, if you're expecting that then you will be pleasantly surprised!

I use an iMac so my usual keyboard is white/silver very compact, sleek and low-profile. Obviously making the change to this keyboard would be in cases of necessity or emergency, such as when the batteries die and I haven't been organised enough to stock up...

It was super easy to set up: Just plug and play (USB connection).

In terms of form and function when compared to a "normal" PC keyboard with its large keys harbouring dirt and dust, this keyboard is quite pleasant to use. The keys are well spaced to allow for very quick typing, minimising the risk of mashing neighbouring keys with your speedy fingers. Also has a decent length wire, so you're not too tied to where you place it.

If it were paired with a black PC setup it would be relatively pleasing to the eye. The gloss "piano black" finish will match many modern flat screen PC monitors. It looks pretty mismatched with a silver iMac and white mouse though. It also does not operate iMac media functions when using the media keys on the keyboard. No big deal for a temporary keyboard though.

It's quite wide if you're used to a compact keyboard without a separate number pad on the right hand side, but if you regularly complete number-intensive tasks this pad is invaluable, and actually may prove useful with my iMac if I ever need to use the number pad for extended periods.

...........................

In summary:

Good points
- Cheap
- Instant setup (USB plug and play)
- Nicely spaced keys
- Convenient number pad
- No batteries needed
- Long wire
- Quite attractive for the price

Bad points
- Media keys don't work for iMac
- Quite wide, won't fit small working space
