Book Description

29 April 2008
It's simply not useful to present information listed under brand names and that's what the other books do. How do you compare the same foods under different brands? Very, very slowly, if at all! Do we really care about one tea biscuit having two more calories than another? We don't think so. People want the CALORIE values for what they are considering for purchase, and then they want them for the portion they want to eat. That's what we do here. "The Pocket Calorie Counter" is an easy-to-use list of foods and drinks, providing the calorie content per portion, together with the carb, fat and fibre content. All this information comes packed into a small enough book for you to carry it with you everywhere!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent little book 28 May 2010
Format:Paperback
Ok so after reading review's of this book I was slightly concerned that the portion sizes were not accurate e.g. 1 small portion, 1 tumbler, 1 good handful etc, but I bought the book anyway as everything else in the reviews looked good and well it's not too hard to guess the amounts. Well I needn't have worried as there is a section in the book called portion sizes which give the equivalent weight/measurements of the quoted portions (I think maybe some people may have missed this bit by skipping right to the counter tables) - Excellent so now not only does it list practically everything, all portions sizes can be measured accurately and it fits into your handbag :o) Fab little book, I give It the thumbs up and would recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly useful!! 23 Sep 2010
By Lucius
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this on a whim and its BRILLIANT. Ignore the people who say the portion descriptions aren't accurate enough, theres a section at the front which explains this fully. It has everything you can imagine you'd need in it. The portions described are 'normal' person portions - not bird food size! The book has a logical order and everything is where you would expect to find it. It lists home-made and shop bought options which is great and also lists naughty things like curry and all its trimmings. The books small and light enough for your bag but has all the foods you require in it. I can't fault it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Calorie Counting 15 Jun 2009
Format:Paperback
This book is great for calorie counting. Really easy to use and has most items in it. Also food measured in real terms ie one tablespoon full, rather than in grams. Great buy and really cheap.

4.0 out of 5 stars You cant go wrong 4 April 2009
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I brought the calorie counter as i now want to know how much calories the food i eat contain. This calorie book is tiny and you can carry it with you everywhere. It's set out like a dictionary (alphabetical order) with the calorie number according to portions- which is one of the many things that make this calorie book great! It doesn't only contain brand names but also has things like home-made fish and chips or home-made chicken soup e.t.c so you know for sure how many calories the food is. Basically, if you really care about the amount of calories a food has then buy this book....you just can't go wrong!

5.0 out of 5 stars Handy! 12 Aug 2009
Format:Paperback
If you're trying to lose weight, and who isn't, this is a must have. It's got just about every calorie you might need to know about. The book is laid out in a very easy to read manner and was easy to use and undestand. I don't think there's a better calorie counter book out there and for this, I highly recommend getting it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A comprehensible easy to use guide 30 Jun 2008
Format:Paperback
No brand names but you can look up Big Mac, Kentucky fried chicken etc.
Portions are realistic eg:
Columns: Food, kC/portion, Portion size, Carbs (g), fat (g),fibre.
Garlic, 5 , 1 clove , 1 , trace, low
Jaffa Cake, 48 , 1 individual cake,9 , 1 , low
Carrot , 35 , 1 large ,8 , trace , medium
but what is large? It does give some equivalent weights or sizes at the beginning but not what size a large carrot is referring to. Most portions are good but as in the carrot problem, not exact.
A good little book to stick in your bag.

5.0 out of 5 stars Handy healthy-eating companion 28 Sep 2010
Format:Paperback
Good little book. I find it tedious to have to work out the nutritional information of a portion size because the info is given per 100g... this book gives everything in bowls, or "one good handful" for salads and so on: reasonable, everyday portion sizes that take out calculating tedium!!!

It also has a really important preface that can support healthy eating, setting out suggestions for portion size and also reminding you to look for the protein, fat and fibre content of food as the key to losing weight is not JUST calorie-counting.

Fits in your handbag so you can port it about with you, handy for restaurants... although I must admit I usually choose what I want anyway, then slap my forehead when I read how calorific it is! ;)

I can strongly recommend this book. It's easy to use and well-balanced.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing purchase1
Although this book is a handy size to take with you, I do find it is not precise enough and does not have for example the calories in an orange or an apple.
