After being sent to Earth by his parents to prevent him from dying in the destruction of his home planet Krypton, an infant boy is taken in by Kansas farmer Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner) and his wife Martha (Diane Lane), who name the child Clark. Growing up Clark (Cooper Timberline/Dylan Sprayberry) begins to discover the true potential of the superpowers he possesses but with this comes a sense of responsibility. In his 20s Clark (Henry Cavill) gets a job as a newspaper reporter at 'The Daily Planet' where he meets and later becomes romantically involved with colleague Lois Lane (Amy Adams). When an evil force threatens the Earth and its inhabitants, Clark resumes his true identity as a superhero and fights to save the planet. 5.0 out of 5 stars A very underrated film 17 Sep 2013
Format:Blu-ray
This film has got a lot of bad publicity because it wasn't anything like the original. If there is one thing i really hate it is people who can't over the past. The Christopher Reeves Superman films were good for what they were but always were cheesy and not really 'super'. Yeah they are a classic and go down in history with such films as Star wars, back to the future and whatever was a feel good movie from those days but Man Of Steel is a true Superman film.. if that makes sense. We get to see his true powers that we have never ever seen on live film before at last. People keep forgetting that in this film he is not 'Superman' yet hence his lack of experience with regards to destruction of the city and his fighting against the other Kryptonians. This film is based on the events that lead to him becoming the Man Of Steel or as some people already called him, Superman. It was his first day as 'that' hero and people already expecting him to be on the ball and knowing what he is doing. People in real life situations take time to adapt to their role, so does he.

I agree that maybe the action could have been cut by 20 minutes and we could have done with some character development for mainly Pa Kent played by the great Costner but then if there was less action people would moan like they did in Superman Returns. The truth is people will always moan because Superman will always be a hard character to depict on live films and to make every person happy. I think this film will be loved more in time and depending on the sequel.

Kevin Costner and Russell Crowe were fantastic as Kal/Clarks father. Both had strong presence in the movie more than any other Jor-El or Jonathan Kent.

5.0 out of 5 stars MAN OF STEEL = SUPER FILM! 13 July 2013
By J wade
Format:Blu-ray
I have been a huge superman fan since I was a child,i grew up with the Christopher Reeve films and still to this day love them,(ok 4 was dreadful) I was over the moon when bryan Singer brought superman back with Superman Returns and although I understand the reasons why some people were not keen on it,i really liked it,i remember being dissapionted that he would not be returning to do a sequel, this now brings us to Man of Steel. All I can say is its been a very very long time that I have came out of a cinema having watched a film that has lived past my expectations, I hoped it would be good,it looked good on the trailers but it was not good,it IS amazing! from the moment it starts to the moment it ends the hairs stood up on the back of my neck,i had a lump in my throat and felt just how I did when I first saw Superman the Movie many many years ago! the film has heart, explains the origins of Superman brilliantly, the cast is superb,Henry Caviill is fantastic as Clark Kent/Kal El/Superman,the direction, the score, everything is breathtaking, the action and special effects are some of the best I have seen, within 2 weeks I had been to the cinema to see it 3 times and cant wait to see it again.when I first came out of the cinema as a young boy having first seen Superman,it made me want to be Superman and Man of Steel had the exact same effect 30+ years later,i cant recommened this film highly enough.SUPERb

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Cinema trip 2013 16 Sep 2013
By Marcus
Format:Blu-ray
I personally love this film. The special effects cannot be compared to any other. It has the perfect blend of humour, action, drama and the OST (as always with Hans Zimmer) is epic. Henry Cavill is great as is Russell Crowe who is poignant as a father saving his child as their world dies. For every boy who is now a man try to clear your mind of crap superhero movies of the past and this is what it should be. Something that makes you come out of the cinema thinking you can save the world if only you had the powers.........

5.0 out of 5 stars Please review the movie properly! 4 Sep 2013
By Paul
Format:Blu-ray
Firstly I know the movie isn't out yet, but my review is to recommend seeing it and owning it. It was a great movie! It had depth, good acting and a good story and finally broke away from old memories. I loved the whole flashbacks and the fear that people would reject him if they knew. the whole emphasis on him being an alien. Russell Crowe was a great father figure as was Kevin Costner, I loved how he didn't lecture or pushing him to be great. Only thing I would say without spoiling anything, I had hoped I would have seen more civilian reaction to superman rather than military. Now that's out the way.

This movie made 650m (roughly)worldwide making it the biggest superman movie of all time. Lately I watch movies that are awesome, yet they have bad reviews because people compare and look for fault. If you look for fault, you'll find it! in anything!
bad reviews of this movie are not fair!!! One gave this movie a bad review because Ben Affleck is in the sequel! bad review because man of steel had no humor? ( Maybe they should have cast Jim Carrey, forgot superman was a comedy)Where does that come from?! its like saying i saw this horror but wish they had more slap stick! Want humor, watch a comedy. Bad reviews because it was too much like Matrix?! no importance to man of steel, you think genetically beings grown Is only for the matrix? Even though Matrix copied Superman, Star Wars and Old Manga but the review had no relevance. Bad reviews because building fell down like in Transformers?! or Jor El riding a dragon like Avatar ... Huh?!? These reviews have no relevance to Man of Steel as a movie. Far too Many people wrote bad reviews because they are comparing it to Superman 1978 and again no relevance.
