1.0 out of 5 stars Apple going the wrong direction
A little over a year old my son's MBA is a write-off because of the cost of a screen repair set against a new laptop. In its advertising Apple makes much of how thin and light the MBA is. Apple fail to mention that these features appear to come at the cost of durability. The screen has no protective glass layer making it very vulnerable to mechanical damage. Worse yet if...

5.0 out of 5 stars best ever laptop/netbook, 17 April 2012

This is without doubt the best laptop/netbook money can by, if you ever wondered how good these are then buy one and you wont be dissapointed ! ok it is a pricey piece of kit but you get what you pay for. i previously bought an imac 27" and was so impressed with it, it made me want to ditch my windows laptop and get a macbook air.the macbook air is up and ready in 15 seconds and it turns off in less than a second, you dont even know you are holding it it is so light and i have photoshop cs5 running on it as good as my 27" imac. theres no waiting for things to happen like with windows. if you take the plunge and buy one you will never go back to a windows pc. also buy the way it lasts for over 7 hours on a charge and then it doesnt take that long to fully recharge it. basically the macbook air is just superb in every way.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best laptop I've ever used, but there are some niggles, 20 May 2012

I agree with most of what's said in the 5 star reviews here, so I won't bother repeating everything.

Good:
+ Very light and easy to handle

+ Good screen

+ Excellent track pad - I didn't think I'd like the new way of scrolling in Lion, but after a few hours there was no going back. I hate using other laptops now!

+ Excellent battery life - typically over 5 hours working with xcode / browsing the web etc

+ I like the magnetic power connector

+ Quiet (but not totally silent - there's a small fan)

+ Fast. Generally, the fast solid state drive more than makes up for the slightly slower processor.

Bad:
- The super-thin metal case is slightly sharp at the front, near the trackpad.

- The apple logo on the back lets ambient light through to the screen, so sometimes you can see the apple logo!
However, this is almost never a problem in practice.

- WiFi does not always connect at start-up or out of sleep - hence 4 stars.
I have to switch WiFi on and off 5-10 times sometimes.
Apple support couldn't fix it and told me I needed to reinstall the operating system - on a brand new machine!
I'm not prepared to do that, as I don't believe it will help.
I believe it's bug in the driver. Searching the web shows I'm not alone with this problem.
(I have 6 other devices that use my WiFi without problems.)

I'd still recommend it to anyone though.

First venture with Apple laptop. Very easy to set up and use. Much quicker than windows to start up and close down. Should have made the change long ago.

e macbook air is ultra stylish, light and ultra cool like other apple products. i prefereed the
arger 13" screen as it gives a clearer image and the weight difference between this and the smaller model was negligible.

This is a great laptop. Super fast, the battery lasts forever, super light and beautiful and the operating system is amazing! If only it would have a bigger disk.. Highly recommended

Worse yet if the screen damage results in the leakage of liquid crystal into the LED diffuser then any repair is not simply the screen (about twice the price of an 'ordinary' laptop) - it will need the complete replacement of the top clam shell; if the laptop is a year or more old then most insurers will see this as a write-off . For a product designed to be portable such fragility is unacceptable in my opinion. I believe the new MacBook Pro Retina laptops have a similar screen configuration. I doubt it will be too long before Apple will be staring in our favourite consumer watchdog programme. As someone who had previously had an Apple Powerbook screen survive an encounter with a freshly ejected 5.56mm cartridge case I can only say that I think Apple is moving in the wrong direction with respect to its mobile computing. What use is elegance without function??

1.0 out of 5 stars Built in camera doesn't work!!!!, 10 Aug 2012

POOR DELIVERY
Was disappointed with the delivery to begin with, very expensive item to be left outside the front of my house unsigned for! Large amazon package was visible from down the street! When I checked tracking said it was on the "front porch" (which I don't have.

MACBOOK AIR
- MISSING built-in webcam hardware?
Wasn't stated in the specs when I bought it and there is no simple way of fixing this problem I will have to pay extra money & time taking it to a shop to get it fixed.
+ Good condition overall shame about missing hardware/software cannot use a number of programs because of it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Can easily be your main computer, 17 Nov 2011

The 2011 model of the Macbook Air, brings this highly portable laptop into the mainstream. The processing power of the new Intel Sandy bridge i5 processor is excellent and a real improvement on the previous generation (released in 2010) C2D processor. You can have multiple applications running in parallel and the speed of the machine is unparalleled. Also with solid state hard drive (SSD) this computer starts VERY quickly! But SSDs are still very expensive so probably need to compromise on capacity (mine is 128GB). But unlike traditional hard drives, there are no moving parts in SSD, which should increase the durability of this machine. The 13" model has the advantage of having an SD card reader slot so porting pictures from your camera could not be easier. Lion works perfectly work and provides a much more stable environment and 'useful' features than the Windows operating systems.

But be warned: some unscrupulous 3rd party traders on amazon are using the wrong RRP so you think you are getting a saving but check on apple.com/uk for the latest upto date RRP. And remember, if you qualify for educational discount, you can get 3 years waranty FREE by buying directly from Apple. Don't be conned

I looked in amazon for the new mac air nad got this site offering it at better price and sooner than amazon itself.
The product, new, in its box, works perfectly.
