I received three separate items from this long handled range that all had loose heads, rocking on the rivet, and so badly fitted to the handle that the head could be felt jangling when shaking the handle. The three items arrived within a few days of each other, so I emailed Spear & Jackson customer service to ask if this could be a faulty batch - I explained that I wanted to know whether to return them for replacement if they could tell me that replacements would be good, or to return them for a refund. Spear & Jackson customer service sent a very brief reply saying that my guarantee was with the supplier and to deal with them. So much for their customer service. Reviewing other feedback on these pages I see that my loose heads are not an isolated problem. With such a long handle it is important to have a tight connection with the head. Otherwise, leverage during use will strain the joint and it will eventually break. Someone else here reports trying to contact Spear & Jackson about a faulty product and being ignored. Fortunately I returned my purchase to Amazon within 30 days for a refund and received their usual good service.

If you plant annuals or 1 gallon plants, you will LOVE this shovel!!! I start with a pitch fork to break up my woodland ground and then use the shovel to continue. I'm 84. This little shovel is a life saver for me. I step on the shovel to dig just the right size hole and I'm there. You'll be so very happy if you spend the money to buy this little shovel. I planted 12 vinca/perriwinkle plants this morning in an hour.

This trowel is well designed and the perfect length to stand and use in a raised bed. My only complaint is that the trowel is very loose and wiggles when used. I think there must have been a quality control issue in that the trowel head was riveted to the handle much lower on the tapered end of the handle than it was designed to be. I will make good use of it but wanted to share the quality issue.
