Try Something Different!,
By
This review is from: Is it Just Me? (Audio CD)
I admit I am a book reader. I also admit I am a fan of Miranda Hart. I noticed that the audiobook was read by her and only 1 more than the hardback, so I thought I'd give it a try. Miranda's voice and phrasing are so special it makes the book even funnier. Try something different if you are not an audiobook listener, it is worth it!

I love Miranda Hart, and find her very funny, so decided to read her book when it came out, having heard nothing about it previously. I was so glad I picked it up, and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who watches 'Miranda', and even those who are just in need of a lighthearded read.It isn't a typical autobiography, set out religiously from childhood through to adulthood, but almost her train of thought on various topics ranging from Technology to Beauty, punctuated by 'conversations' with her younger self. Her distinctive voice and sense of humour shines through in the writing, so anyone who loves Miranda will be able to recognise the style instantly, and in places it truly made me laugh out loud. It is reasonably short and easy to read, nothing dark or gritty (not that you would expect it!) and I defy anyone not to enjoy it!

As the somewhat over-height product of a public school I may not be the most impartial reviewer, but this has had me laughing like a drain and doing that thing where you slow down to prolong the book when you see the end approaching.

Big fan, however...,

I LOVE Miranda and this was a really funny and warm read. I think almost everyone can identify with her, the title says it all.But I don't love that Amazon won't pay their fair share of UK taxes.

I just want to start off by saying that I am a fan of the TV show Miranda. Most of that programme is very funny, so when Miranda brings out a book, I just had to see what it was like. When it first came out (9.99, I think) it was just too expensive for me, and then the total first chapter was offered free of charge, so I downloaded that, and that is where I should have stopped...but no, down it come under 4.00 and I snap it up. The main problem is it's just not funny. Sure there are a few sentences that make you titter, but they are few and far between. I got to chapter 5 and then put it in my archives. I will finish it one day, maybe, and perhaps the star rating will change, but never above three. Disappointed.

I love Miranda and I think she is a fantastic writer... but not when it comes to books. If the purpose of Is it just me? was to make people think if they are or are not as nutty, clumsy and humour-loving as Miss Hart- it failed in my case. If it was written to make us laugh- it failed in this field as well. If it was to amuse- sorry. I do not think it could get worse than this. Disappointing!

Her humour doesn't transfer too well from TV screen to paper.,

Not bad in places. Didn't flow as expected or had me rip roaring with laughter. Easy to read and hardback is always nice

I went into this book not knowing a lot about it - I've not seen a lot of Miranda Hart, I don't watch many of her shows so I wouldn't call myself a fan, but I found this to be a funny and witty read. I enjoyed that this wasn't just about Miranda as a person, but her thoughts and feelings on a range of topics. It's a very easy to read, I found I was able to get into it straight away and it's a nice light-hearted read. Although it's not the genre of book I'd usually read, I was pleased that I picked it up and would definitely recommend to any fans of Miranda Hart.

Is it just me, or is it really irritating?,

I think she is phenomenally talented but maybe it's her acting in Call the Midwife that I like and not her persona in Miranda, so I just found the book a bit repetitive and one dimensional; I think if you enjoy Miranda you'll probably enjoy this.
