Black Skinhead - New Slaves - I'm In It - Bound 2...
Kanye is undoubtedly the most connected artist in 'popular' music to this so called, modern culture. He's misunderstood and so is his music, people will realise what a groundbreaking album this is in about 10 years. I love it and so does Lou Reed.

Kanye West has never made a bad album.
This latest effort has a rather bleak tone throughout added to by the complete lack of any artwork.None of the tracks have a commercial groove and the production values which are great on some tracks sound kinda poor on others.In fairness, many of KW's albums have been 'growers' It is not bad in any way but sometimes I feel KW is trying to be overly-clever at the expense of the music.

This won't be a mainstream album and Kanye isn't expecting it. Its numbers will be decent enough but not to the same level his earlier works got. Its meant to be creative and pushing boundaries of hip hop which has seriously stagnated post 2007 except for a handful of rappers. He can make gully rap with his eyes closed and did that last summer with the GOOD Music album. The music production to this album is refreshing but the lyrics are a bit average for Kanye. Stand out quotable - "I be speaking Swaghili". WARNING: You may find it jarring on the first play. And if you go skipping through the tracks you may finish listening to it in 5 minutes and put it away under a rock under Common's "Electric Circus" album, where it definitely doesn't belong. Listen to it on a drive and give the album a chance to breath and have your attention. Lets face it we live in a world that's made us slightly ADHD. While other rappers play it safe, Kanye pushes himself as not many rappers around him are. Let's see what Kendrick Lemar's "Control" verse does to the game.

If you are a fan pick it up, if you aren't I don't think this is going to persuade you. It has some great tracks on it but it doesn't come close to Late Registration for me.

He is as mad as a box of frogs, has an ego the size of Antartica and unites people in complimentary levels of mutual love and hatred. Not that Kanye West really cares any about this. He attracts more press than Kate Middleton and artists buzz around him to collaborate on his albums like moths to flame. West is one of the biggest "minds" in music and fundamentally the best thing to happen to rap since the Sugarhill Gang had a bright idea all those years ago to popularize an approach to music of spoken and chanted rhyming that broke the top 40 for the first time. Granted we do not need to reflect too long on his severe misfire with Jay Z on the horrible "Watch the throne". But anyone who releases an album quite as brilliant as 2010's "My dark twisted fantasy" should be cut some slack.
"Yezzus" is West again pushing the boundaries out there so far that he is the musical equivalent of Star Trek. There are more ideas in the Daft Punk assisted opening track "On sight" than most artists have in a lifetime. It is all about "attack' and its almost Prodigy like thundering ascetic makes for a storming start. Unfortunately bearing in mind the history of its lead singer the song "Black Skinhead" doesnt half sound like the Glitter Bands "Rock n Roll". Let us forgive Mr West for this and just enjoy an excellent rap with an almost Eminem assertion that "Baby, we livin' in the moment/I've been a menace for the longest/But I ain't finished, I'm devoted/And you know it, and you know it". Truth be told is pretty dark stuff and leads into a slice of pure West that will irritate, anger and annoy some of his core constituency namely the song "I am god". Frankly who knows what West is talking about here but its is hard brutal rap of mint quality with overtones so black it could appear on a Marilyn Manson album. Read more ›

I must admit i was highly skeptical about Yeezus before i listened to it, but when i did it blew me away.
The album feels raw, energetic and incorporates deep personal and political thought (a key aspect that has been missing from rap for decades) with Kanye still holding the capacity to develop devastating lyrical blows. The obvious Dancehall influence to this album is very refreshing and both Assassin and Chief Keef add quality contributions.
There isn't a song on this album i dislike and for me the works of pure masterpiece are: Hold my liquor, Bound to, I'm in it and I am a God.
Wouldn't be an understatement to say It's in contention for best Rap album of the decade so far.

Rap for the electro club
This album seems to be for people who like to be in clubs in East London, bopping their heads to the heavy bass line. Kanye elevates his style and sound for a 3rd time.
