Ellie--plain, plump, with frizzy hair, not drop-dead gorgeous like Magda or supercool like Nadine--meets the man of her dreams over a burger and a sketch book and immediately finds that her father's instructions to be home by 9.00pm at the very latest have fallen through her hormone-addled sieve of a brain. She would much rather be snogging with Russell, but what will he think of her if she admits she has to be home at such a ridiculously early hour? But the real problems arise when Ellie and her buddies take a trip to London to see their favourite singer in action and they find themselves caught up with a van-load of dodgy blokes who have more than dancing in mind.
As sparky and true-to-life as ever, Wilson takes the bull by the horns and tackles teenage dilemmas with a reverence and wit that will doubtless continue to turn heads long into the future. Realism--not necessarily the gritty kind, but more the everyday-worrisome kind--plays a huge part in the authors work, not least in this tremendous series where she deals sensitively with the onset of the teenage years with a warmth, understanding and humour that cuts to the bone while at the same time provoking laughter at the sheer madness of it all.
An excellent book for older readers, great if read as part of the series, but undoubtedly not to be missed if it's the first Jacqueline Wilson book you have ever bought. It certainly won't be the last. (Age 11 and over) --Susan Harrison --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

The best guide to teenage life!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Girls Out Late (Hardcover)
Girls out late is the best book I've read.It inspires me the way Jaqueline Wilson writes about girls going through the same stage. She writes things that you think you'd never experience but maybe one day you will. Its all about how this girl called Ellie meets a boy who actually likes her and it gos on as she hqs to choose between her friends or boyfriend on 'going out' wise. Jaqueline Wilson writes like she is a girl going through this and I reckon any girl teenage or not would enjoy this.I recommend this tops because I think it will inspire anyone who reads this and Jaqueline Wilson will be a girlshero in fave authors.Read this and find out how Ellie gets on with this boy??? and how she goes on a wild night out.

Brilliantly written if unrealistic,

I have read the other books in this series and really liked them but the subject of this one wouldn't really happen in real life, especially Russell. Not as good as the first two.

Good Book,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Girls Out Late (Paperback)
This is a good book.It is about 3 girls. Nadine, Magna and Ellie. Ellie is gets a boyfriend called Russell and gets told off by her dad for staying up to 11pm 'For a walk in the park'. Her dad gets really angry and won't let Ellie out again. Suddenly Magna starts flirting with her teacher and Nadine starts posing. Ellie sneaks out with her boyfriend to McDonalds. When Russell askes her to a dance and her friends ask her to see a famous singer Ellie finds it hard to choose. When she does make a final desicion her friends break up and lead her into a new adventure. This is a very well written book and if you enjoy this book I would advise you to read. Girls in Love, Girls under Pressure and Girls in Tears.
