This review is for the Kindle leather cover in black.
Things I liked about this cover:
- Kindle slots in very securely, no chance of it coming loose
- Nothing obscures the screen - many other cover styles use elastic corners to secure the cover, I find these distracting
- Easy to access the page back and forward buttons
- Finish and stitching all feel good quality
- solid black colour
- I like the way that 'Kindle' is embossed on the front of the cover and on the inside
Things I didn't like about this cover:
- Doesn't look or feel like leather
- The cover marks easily, mine is already scratched
- Nothing to secure the front cover closed whilst not in use
- Whilst reading there is nothing to hold the front cover rigid and it just flops around.
- The front cover really needs to be folded behind whilst reading, otherwise it feels awkward. This makes the case and Kindle fairly bulky to hold in one hand.
- The Kindle, once fitted is very difficult to remove - so I guess this is both a positive and negative
Overall impression:
I like the look and feel of the case. I like how secure the Kindle fits inside it and how the screen isn't obscured. But, because there are so many things I didn't like the high cost of this cover has left me feeling somewhat disappointed.

Very, very disappointed with the official case for the new Kindle. It's nowhere near as good as the official one for the Kindle+keyboard model.
Good point:
The Kindle fits in nice and snugly.
Bad points:
1. It feels hard, cheap and plastic.
2. When you fold the cover behind it to read the screen, the weight of the Kindle drags the front part down. It feels wrong in your hand.
3. And the absolute worst... there is nothing to fasten the front cover down. It just flaps around, free as the wind, offering very little protection.
Amazon have really dropped the ball with this new case. It's not even worth a fiver. A shame, as the previous offical case was really good.

Kindle Leather Cover, Black
Shocked is the best word to describe my feeling towards this case. Compared to the Kindle 3G keyboard case which feels superb and solid, this new case feels cheap and plastic. I cannot believe they charge 30 pounds for this when it must have cost 5 pounds to make. The new Kindle is wonderful but the case for it is pathetic!
It has no strap to keep the front flap closed - I have to use an elastic band to do that. It makes my awesome new kindle look really pathetic.
I recommend that no-one buys this case and rather look for another alternative as you will only be disappointed by this. C'mon Amazon, you can do far better than this!!!

Somehow I expected this cover to be rather overpriced and I wasn't wrong. Quality is OK but not good value at �30. Amazon seem to be subsidizing their new cheaper Kindle by overpricing the accessories (printer firms have been doing this for years on cheap printers and hugely expensive inks). My advice is to buy a cheaper, non-kindle cover - Amazon may then take the hint.

I ordered this product 14/10/11 and received it 14/11/11. A calendar month for delivery!
It is simply not worth �30.99. The protective body seems fine but the front cover is flimsy and will easily damage and become mishaped. All the more disappointing though is that the front cover does not fasten down in any way. I can see a problem in a bag or a rucksack with something getting between the cover and the screen and causing damage. Not too much of an issue with a regular book but with a Kindle a damaged screen will be unpleasant to read through and expensive to rectify.
For the price I am not at all impressed with this product and I certainly won't be buying another to accompany the Kindle that I intend to purchase for my daughter for Christmas. If this had been �10 it would have just been OK.

I searched the net and considered several Kindle jackets and cases before deciding to buy the Amazon product. I was attracted to it for several reasons, firstly (and most importantly to me) it has no closure clasp. I don't go anywhere without my Kindle and a closure clasp sticking out will definitely snag when you try to slide it into a jacket pocket. A book doesn't have a clasp and as far as I am aware this has never been an issue so why on earth should a Kindle have one? Secondly it has no straps, bungees, elasticated cords or leather corners to hold the Kindle in place like many others do. These surely wear out in time and render the jacket useless and even in the best case they don't look very nice. This cover gives you a clear uninterrupted view of the front of the Kindle, which is already well designed so why cover it up? The back of the cover has a moulded rubberised, plastic case which clicks firmly and securely in place, melds seemlessly into the device and really becomes an integral part of it rather than looking like an add-on. It appears to offer really good, robust, protection for the Kindle in case you drop it and what avid reader has ever gone through this life without dropping a book? The cover leaves all the controls available including the page up and down controls on both sides of the device, magic! I also like black leather and this jacket is extremely well made with a nicely stitched front cover and a leather rear cover which is the same moulded shape as the Kindle... How do they do that? Not a clue but it is tactile and extremely well put together, just like the naked device, it adds very little bulk to the device which again is a must when, like me, you take your Kindle everywhere.
