Tell you what, the clothes and hairdos might be embarrassing now but my goodness these singles stick in the memory. That's something that can't be said about today's tracks eh? I must admit that I probably only bought about a third of these tracks either as singles or on albums when they first came out, thinking that the rest were a bit rubbish (e.g. Wham). However, having grown rose tinted ears over the past few years, and with the benefit of hindsight(hindhearing?) I have to say that I remember every one of these songs and the artists and the dodgy videos and the even dodgier TOTP appearances and love them all. Of course this is just the latest in a long line of 80's compilations but for me it is amongst the best - at least as it impacts on my memories.

Poptastic Mate!

OK, 4 CDs, so a lot of tracks for your money. There are probably 40 really good tracks, which under normal circumstances would be fantastic. Unfortunately there are just as many 'stocking filler' tracks as well.

In many cases, the filler tracks are from bands, who had many better hits than the one that was included. I have never understood this.

Would it matter if there was more than one track from the same act ?

For some the 80s was a gold mine of material for an album like this. So, plenty to like about this, but certainly not as good as it could, or should, of been.

when i am working on nights they play the 80s all night and some the songs are great and now i can listen to them as much as i want to now

Really good selection of classic 80s tunes....cheesy by great!! Good for the car and taking you back to your youth!!

This album takes me right back..... college, first job, marriage..... but where are Adam and his Ants???? THE band of the 80's but nowhere to be seen, very disappointed!

Fanatstic compilation, a must have for music fans!

The diversity of the artists, styles and sounds goes to show that the 80s was probably one of the most creative eras in music history. The current state of the music industry is so bland and homogenous - it simply cannot compare. The electronic sounds were pioneering, the world hadn't heard anything like this before!

Yes some of the artists on here had better singles and some classic 80s artists and tracks are missing - Depeche Mode, The Smiths, The Pet Shop Boys, OMD, The Police, Joy Division, New Order, Patrice Rushen, Prince and Chaka Khan to name a few but that's probably down to the record label restrictions etc! Forget that and enjoy!

What a great choice of songs, all the best songs from the 80's it is on non stop in the car..

Excellent. I like 80s music. eaey listening I remember most of the songs the first time round on records now I can listen to them on cd.

I would just like to begin this review by saying, right from the start, that I did not buy this compilation for myself. I would like to think I never would have bought it for myself, that I would have had the self-restraint and good discipline to have scanned its track list, gasped at its quite appalling lack of Bananarama tracks, had a small attack of the vapours and then forgotten all about it. Because I am a man in complete control of his urges at all times. Well, most of them anyway.

As it happens though, this was bought for me as a birthday present. Which means I will never have to contemplate the alternative scenario; where I would still have bought it for myself (no doubt shoving old ladies aside in my haste to do so), even though it contains absolutely no surprises of any description. That fact is almost as embarrassing as the knowledge that the only reason my friends clubbed together to buy me this particular 80s box-set was because I've already bought myself all of the others. I feel so ashamed.

The songs on here, while being very recognisable tracks from this most iconic decade, are not exactly the shy and retiring types when it comes to throwing themselves at any passing 80s collection. Like moths to a flame, the likes of 'Love And Pride' and 'Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now' would appear to find 80s compilations almost as irresistable as I do.

I shall be obliged to give this an airing at my birthday party tomorrow night, in the interests of politeness, but I can't see one track anywhere on here that I don't already have on at least one other 80s collection. Oh dear God - is that Nena? Stone the crows, just how many copies of '99 Red Balloons' can one man have in his possession without feeling tempted in any way whatsoever to play any single one of them? Is there some unwritten law somewhere that says anyone putting together an 80s compilation must find space upon it for that song or else the entire musical project will be cursed, or what?

Oh my heavens, I've just had the most terrible thought; what if the shelf that contains all of my 80s compilations were to collapse under its own weight one evening, burying me alive under mountains of my own guilty purchases? It would no doubt be a very appropriate way for me to go but, what if whoever eventually came round to dig me out and then cart me off happened to do a count-up of all the copies of that damn song I actually owned? Is it possible people might get the impression from that vast tally that I, heaven help me, actually LIKED that song?!

Oh God - they wouldn't play that damn thing at my funeral, would they?!

Being generous, this is a pretty neat little collection of songs from the decade. 'The 80s' is a fairly woolly title anyway: and since this box-set doesn't seem to be claiming that it contains the ultimate this or the complete that, I must acknowledge the fact that yes, these 80 tracks ARE from 'The 80s'. But this one, like every other collection that has led me into temptation before it, simply cannot be recommended as giving anything like a complete picture of the 80s music scene. I mean to say, they can find room for Nena but not Bananarama? Please!
