5.0 out of 5 stars Herald and Sunday Herald Kindle 4 Sep 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
At last a Scottish newspaper on the Kindle. Used to get the Independent on Kindle, but the complete lack of Scottish perspective stories meant I eventually ditched it. Refreshing to have a the Herald and Sunday Herald available to read so easily with the a mixture of UK, international and Scottish stuff. You get both Herald and Sunday herald on this subscription. I am only an occasional buyer of newspapers, mostly the Scotsman or Independent and Sunday Herald (which is excellent). The Herald Kindle version seems to have more to read than its broadsheet print version, although I'm sure this is is not the case (not a fan or broadsheet formats any more). I can only compare with the Kindle Independent offering, the format, navigation and layout is the same. All round I am reading more 'Herald newsprint' because of the Herald on Kindle and love the Scottish perspective news not previously available from any other Kindle offering.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great coverage of Scottish news and Poltics 31 Jan 2013
Great coverage of Scottish news and politics, also nicely formatted and much easier to read than the massive printed version.

1.0 out of 5 stars Prefer the iPad version 15 Aug 2012
By M. King
The Kindle version costs the same as the Ipad version on a monthly basis, yet the iPad gets all the supplements & the full paper. I really hate reading books on the Ipad, and this is where the Kindle excels, but it's the opposite with magazines/newspapers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great newspaper, good format 19 July 2012
I have no idea what the other two reviewers are griping about. I am, admittedly, a fan of the Herald (and the Scotsman ) due to the excellent well-researched and intelligent content. However I am sceptical of copy-and-paste e-editions that are poorly formatted and ill-considered. Thankfully this is not the case here.

The e-Herald is helpfully divided into appropriate sections with headlines that can be clicked to reveal the full article. The content is as full as the paper copy and there are even pictures on some articles. The sport section is as full as I wold expect although I am interested to know if league tables will be published when the football and rugby seasons recommence.

The only items missing are the crossword, the cartoon, and an unintelligable Glaswegian touting the latest edition on Sauchiehall Street.

4.0 out of 5 stars None 26 Jan 2013
So good to get a Scotttish perspective anywhere I am in the world! Thanks Herald, I know more about what is happening in Scotland while living in Uganda than my dad in Glasgow. I would appreciate a 'weather' section, which is missing. There is plenty on Scottish football, though no table to let you know a team's standing. As with most of the media in Scotland, I am not convinced of unbiased writing on the independence debate. Otherwise, I feel much closer to home with a downloaded copy of the Herald in my hand.

2.0 out of 5 stars lack of news required 11 Dec 2012
after trying the herald for ten days i was very disappointed. although it covered most news stories i found that some important items were missing. one was the draw for the scottish cup never appeared. more over there is no summary of football fixtures or results. there seemed to be an obsession with reporters text rather than providing facts. i will not be subscribing after trial offer ends.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good start but some disappointing features 3 Sep 2012
By Neil
I was pleased at last to be able to get a Scottish newspaper on my Kindle. There are, however, some aspects of the way the Herald is presented on the Kindle that I found unhelpful.

Firstly, the 'News' section is far too broad, especially when combined with unhelpful headlines. A headline which works in print, where the standfirst and/or lead paragraph are also visible to the reader, may not give you any idea of what the story is actually about when it appears on its own on the Kindle.

Secondly, small stories appear at random containing no introductory material. My guess is that in the print edition these appeared as helfpul information boxes alongside a larger news story, but in the Kindle edition they often appear some way down the list of articles. In print there would have been a clear context for the item. On the Kindle it can be baffling, especially if you happen to have skipped the main story and have no idea why you are being given this information.

These are small complaints compared to the benefit of being able to get Scottish news on my Kindle, but other UK newspapers that I subscribe to seem to be able to get these points right.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Paper 3 Aug 2012
What a pleasure to read well written articles. Obviously there is an emphasis on Scottish news but the coverage of UK and International events is excellent. Well worth a trial if you are not familiar with the paper.
