5.0 out of 5 stars Great Media/Backup Drives in NAS Servers
I have several Western Digital 2 TB Caviar Green drives in my HP Microserver, their energy saving and power efficiency makes them excellent drives to use in home servers. You get great speeds with them despite being "green" drives so they function in any scenario such as backup or media serving. 3.0 out of 5 stars Seems fine
It's difficult to be gushing in a review of a hard drive!

It works, I can't say much more than that - I'm using it in a microserver to store my TV recordings - hardly a demanding role but it is performing entirely adequately...

You get great speeds with them despite being "green" drives so they function in any scenario such as backup or media serving. They also run nice and cool too, on average a couple of a degrees cooler than Seagate drives also in use in my HP Microserver.

They are very reliable drives after years of use and continue perform effortlessly, definitely recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great drives, Great value, 1 May 2013

Western Digital is probably the oldest hard drive manufacturer around and the quality of their drives easily shows why they're still going strong. I still have my 1st PC that I keep around for playing old games and inside is the original 200MB WD hard drive that is pushing 20yrs old and still works flawlessly, along with a 15yr old 2GB Maxtor drive. DOA drives are unfortunately a fact of life because they are mechanical and are very precise instruments. They might be knocked in transit or have manufacturing defects, but for the number of drives that are sold every day it's just bad luck if you happen to get a dud and shouldn't be considered an indicator of poor reliability. Thankfully I've never had a WD drive arrive DOA or even die during use, but it's pretty much guaranteed that I will at some point in the future now that I have some running 24/7.

I currently have 4 of the older EARX drives in my home server (using software RAID - hardware RAID has known issues with those drives) and they're whisper quiet and stay very cool. The newer EZRX drives are supposed to bring some of the features of the WD Red drives (built for NAS boxes and hardware RAID) that should make them an even better choice. I'm especially hopeful that their 'StableTrac' feature will reduce the low hum that comes from having multiple hard drives in one machine.

I'm pretty confident in my decision to buy another 4 of these drives and can recommend them to anyone looking for good value, decent drives.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quiet, good price and large, 21 Oct 2012

This is my second Green 2TB HDD. They were bought to setup RAID but after realising the storage would be limited only to 2TB, since data is duplicated from one drive to another, I opted to use a syncronisation program to backup selected files and folders instead, which is proving beneficial. The drive is quiet, takes a moment to spin up if it hasn't been used for a long period of time - and in my backup scenario this happens frequently - but is a small price to pay for the vast amount of storage available for the price.
I would recommend this product.

I have had excellent service from these drives in the past and, unless anything goes drastically wrong, I will stick 'with the devil I know'.

Bought to use as my internal HDD for my VU+ Duo2 box.

Installed in minutes and works perfectly, now I'm thinking I should have got the 3TB version ... you can never have enough recording space, HAHA!!

I ordered this hard drive as I already own a 1TB and it has worked well for many years. The first HDD I ordered quickly developed an I/O error which could not be resolved. The second one experienced constant Delayed Write Failures and upon inspection was riddled with bad sectors. I'm very disappointed as WD is / was a solid brand. Needless to say I will not be ordering a 3rd.

I bought this to replace a couple of older Samsung spinpoints which to be honest have not been the most relaiable drives (I have had 4 of them replaced already!!!). Having had a few Western Digital drives over the last few years without problems I am hoping this will last just as well. It's quiet and fast in operation and was a very reasonable price, what more can you ask for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't complain for the price!, 2 Sep 2013

To be fair, for the price I can't really say anything bad about this drive. It's fast enough for games, works great as a secondary drive when paired up with a SSD for the O/S.

The deal breaker is always noise as well, I don't hear this thing whirr or clunk at all, it's silent!

Just try not to use this as a Primary Drive, use this as a secondary.
