Book Description

9 May 2013
Curry has become an integral part of our staple diet but few of us are aware of what 'authentic' means when it comes to Britain's favourite food - how it is cooked and what makes it so sublime. Instead we have been patronised with dumbed-down versions of wonderfully spiced dishes through the provision of gooey mixtures that slime their way out of jars. 'No more!' cries self-proclaimed Urban Rajah Ivor Peters. The search for homemade, straightforward fragrant food ends here.

Packed full of inspiring stories and generations-old recipes, this book opens the door into a world of family cooking that will teach us how to cook delicious curry in our own homes. So put down that jar of low-fat chicken tikka masala, rip up your takeaway menu and let Ivor lead you through a journey of spice that will leave you revelling in colour, yearning for the delicate smells of cardamom and cinnamon and desperate to tear a chapatti to shreds and plunge it into a curry feast of your own making.

Review

This beautiful cookbook doesn't just contain your regular Ruby Murrays - it's a mesmerising journey that tells the story about how the exotic flavours of India became one of the UK's most treasured institutions. You may as well recycle your stack of takeaway menus and jars of supermarket sauces. (Now Magazine)

5.0 out of 5 stars More than a cook book! 4 Jun 2013
By Clare
Format:Hardcover
A fantastic read as well as some amazing recipes - this book makes you think about all the stories behind your own family favourites and entices you to make memories of your own. A real insight into asian cooking and culture - I read it like a novel rather then a cook book - brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful 3 Jun 2013

This book is as warm & inviting, cosy and comforting, colourful and quirky as the dishes contained within it. By the time you're only a few pages in, you too will wish you could experience the warmth, laughter and ever-delicious dishes of the Peters household, so lovingly related to the reader, even if just for a single glorious spice-filled day. Best thing is, now you can. Joyful. Loved it.
