Ordered this the other week to replace an older TomTom device expecting this to be smarter and better than previous model , alas no it isn't it is in one word . . . rubbish. I cant believe Tom Tom have deleted the good features from the menu as other reviews state , no multiple route stops , no A-B , no avoid road block or road , no SOS , the list goes on so I have returned mine and gone back to an older device , if any one from Tom Tom reads these reviews please don't fix what isn't broken , your older units are by far the best on the market please leave them that way.

This is an in depth product review for TomTom's premium navigation device, the GO 6000 Europe (but will also largely apply to any of the GO X00 and GO X000 devices - for this reason, I have also placed this review within their respective pages). My aim is to provide an honest viewpoint that will help you make a decision about purchasing, whether you're a complete newcomer to sat-navs, or use them on a daily basis. In certain aspects, I will compare this device to my previous sat-nav, a TomTom GO LIVE 1005 World. In recent reviews of TomTom's latest sat-navs I have seen a worrying trend of consumers buying a product without really realising what that specific model can, and more importantly can't do. I will attempt to enlighten you all.

***TOMTOM GO X00/X000 PRODUCT RANGE DIFFERENCES***
Let's get this out the way. The GO 400/500/600 products (only difference being screen size and resolution - 400/500 have a resolution of 480x272 and the 600 a resolution 800x480 [Thanks to 'Bill Roberts' for this correction about resolution]) all connect to LIVE services (i.e. traffic) via a smartphone. This simply means that you need a smartphone (I believe only iPhone or Android) with you at all times if you want to get traffic updates, which you do. To find out if your phone is compatible, http://goo.gl/KQx346. Keep in mind you will be using up data on your phone, so review your contract etc before purchase. The GO 5000/6000 (again only difference between each other is screen size and resolution, the 5000 being 480x272 and the 6000, 800x480) are "always connected". Simply put, they get traffic updates automatically, without having to connect your phone every time.

I got mine today and tomorrow im returning it, I agree 100% with the other 2 star review.
The hardware is brilliant and some of the features are very alluring however its lacking features you would imagine standard, lack of customisation is disappointing but not the end of the world but the lack of route options is, no alternative route no avoid area etc is. Its hard to understand why this would be left off cause all the new go range is is a fancy and expensive inferior device.

I have always bought Tom Tom never considering any other product from the opposition, I purchased this to replace my ageing XL model, being a long distance truck driver I'm governed to 55 mph which on the XL I can set in my preferences and I know what time I'm going to arrive for any journey, all the new models have had this feature taken away along with many others, sold it straight away on EBay and went back to using my old faithful. All my fellow truckers have the same view, won't be purchasing anything from Tomtom until speed preferences is returned in the menu.

Do not buy this product unless you have impeccable eyesight and prefer looking at a SatNav rather than the traffic.

Much text on screen too small to read, no audio warning when exceeding the speed limit, no hands free mobile or voice command. Horrible graphics. Safety cameras alert does not live up to the name, it is too quiet. Again text information and graphic just too small. Is it really necessary to put reading glasses on when driving, then the graphic disappears before the camera has been passed, then reappears again, only one audio alert. All in all FAR TOO DISTRACTING... for me this device is a driving hazard rather than a driving aid. Do I really need to wear bi-focals, the sat nav should be telling me everything I need to know with sounds so I can keep my eyes on the road.

Complete dearth of useful and interesting information, trip-o-metres, max speed, petrol consumption estimates etc etc etc. My Garmin Nuvi 2495lmt which this WAS going to replace (due to accidental damage) is massively superior and significantly cheaper.

Ironically, in my book the ONLY saving grace of this Tom-Tom joke is the traffic and camera updates via my iphone. That I like a lot!! Why is that ironic? Well it seems most Tom-Tom regulars don't like it.

I will be taking this cr*p back to the shop from whence it came on Monday, it was mis sold to me as having a hands free phone capacity. If it did actually have that, I would keep it and just kick myself for not doing more research, and making a very, very rash impulse buy.

I am sure Tom-Tom can do better, and from reading the reviews here, they have done better. This, I fear, will go down in history as a big Tom-Tom booboo.

Edit: Please see my comments further down. I have bumped this from a one star to a two star following my practical ongoing use of the product, which in the end I did not take back as I needed a GPS.
