Powered by Windows
This tablet comes complete with a Windows 8 operating system which allows for a powerful and fast user experience. Using Windows 8 allows for an enhanced use when being used in a mobile mode or if preferable, switching to the traditional desktop mode provides the user with a more familiar look which can be used for work.
Microsoft Office
Use of Windows 8 allows for the many benefits and familiar desktop applications that are available with it. The Iconia W3 Tablet PC comes with Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 edition, which allows the user to have access to Word, Excel, PowerPoint and One Note documents whilst on the move.
Personalisation
In additon to this,the Iconia W3 allows access to personal apps and settings via live tiles on the screen for ease of access. Plus, connection to the Windows Store for the option of downloading even more to the tablet. With the ability to have multiple individual user accounts all individually personalised, even when shared it can still be customised to each user's tastes.
Sharing
The Iconia W3 Tablet PC is designed to be able to sync across all devices that are enabled with Windows 8. This allows for greater flexibility of use and increases productivity in conjunction with the other methods of sharing information.
Featuring a Micro HDMI 1.3 cable port, the tablet is able to connect with a variety of devices, for example to a projector for delivering PowerPoint presentations. Similarly, coming with a Micro USB 2.0 port allows the user the option to connect to other devices for information and file exchange. Should external storage of data be desired, or as another way of transferring information between devices, the tablet comes with a Micro SD card slot. In conjunction with the built in security and safety features, these additions all allow the user a myriad of options for sharing and working.
Taskmaster
Powered by an Intel Clover Trail Z2760 CPU, the lithium ion battery is able to deliver a long battery life between charges for all kinds of digital activity. This allows for the ability to have 8 hours of 720P video playback and whether at work or on the go, the 16:10 aspect ratio provides a large view.
Video Chat
The Iconia W3 is designed with an integrated 2MP front camera and an external audio jack for a headset. This allows the tablet to be used for video communication and so the user can ensure to be able to connect face to face, whether socially or for work.
One or Two Hands
Because of its size, the Iconia W3 Tablet PC is designed for comfort when held by a single hand, which allows for more convenience when browsing webpages with the other hand. When the on screen keyboard is used though, the user is able to type with both thumbs at once rather than having to rely on just one. This allows for quicker typing and improved efficiency.

There is little to complain about in the specs. Intel's Atom processor is optimized for efficiency rather than performance, so this is slow compared to a typical laptop, but it is good enough, and noticeably faster than Microsoft's Surface RT which runs the locked-down ARM version of Windows 8. For example, the W3 completed the SunSpider 1.0 JavaScript test in 671.5ms, versus 1029.2ms on Surface RT, and that chimes with my general impression of comparative performance.
You also get HDMI out, a MicroSD slot for up to 64GB additional storage, Micro USB, headset port, microphone and front and rear cameras so you can easily do video chat or take occasional photos and video.
Now for a few observations.
The screen is not too good, noticeably grainy with limited viewing angle and poor in outside light.
Micro USB means you will need an adaptor for most PC devices like USB keyboard or mouse.
Full Windows in 8.1" is challenging to operate with touch, on the desktop side. If you plan to spend most of your time on the App side of Windows 8, no problem, but for Windows apps you will need keyboard and mouse for comfortable use.
I find the tablet gets quite hot at rear left.
My W3, which I received at a conference, came with the dedicated keyboard/dock, obtainable at extra cost. This is bigger than the tablet itself and connects via Bluetooth. Unfortunately the keyboard has a cheap plastic feel and is somewhat delicate, though it works well enough. Read more ›
This is a perfect combination of form, weight, usability (I'm writing this short review from my W3!)
I read many reviews that complain about the screen quality. I don't. I like it a lot, and at that low price, I know what to expect.
The reason why I didn't give 5* is because of the very average WiFi reception: even at less than 2 meters away from a WiFi router, I can never achieve more than 4 bars. That's not good enough.
Nevertheless, I love the tablet and its price so much that we have two of them at home!
loading software is difficult, screen resolution not good making finger / gesture driven operation painfully slow
manufacturers advice was to do a factory re-set ... uh!!!!
