Product Description

Private investigator and former homicide detective Alice James was just six months old when her father, Leon Stapper, abandoned his family. Forty years later, Alice has convinced herself she’s over it—until her half sister, Corina, calls her up and wants to meet. But before Alice and Corina can get acquainted, everything goes terribly, tragically wrong. Determined to uncover the truth behind what happened to her sister, Alice calls in reinforcements: Jim Snow, her partner in Las Vegas’s James & James Detective Agency who knows a thing or two about family drama. Their investigation takes them from Sin City to Silicon Valley, where Alice and Corina’s father reigns as a high-tech CEO. As Alice and Jim dig for clues, they find that Leon’s best friend and attorney Ron Bale took a very personal interest in Corina. Not to mention the fact that he used to be married to Leon’s ex-wife—until she vanished without a trace. Alice is convinced that if she and Jim can uncover the truth about the missing wife, they will discover what happened to Corina. But first, they will need a little help from some old friends.

Smart, sharp, and entertaining, Desert Drop is the third installment of Rex Kusler’s Las Vegas Mystery series, starring one of contemporary crime fiction’s favorite investigating duos.

4.0 out of 5 stars Desert Drop ( Mystery ) 11 April 2012
By M. E. Wood VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine Review (What's this?)
I enjoyed this book, it only took a few hours to read and would be great for a car or train journey, Its not a book you have to think to much about, as there's no horrific story line, no huge plot to remember. Its a pretty tame storyline and the story is set around Alice, who has found out she has a half sister, who has been kidnapped and its up to her and James,(the other half of James and James the investigators), to workout the why's and where's. The book has some funny moments and is well worth a read, however if your into blood and guts then perhaps this ones not for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars The James Duo Strike Again 29 Mar 2012
By H. S. Hallam VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine Review (What's this?)
Another fast-moving story from the James and James detective agency, this time solving a crime near to home and family. While I found the story enjoyable and easy to read, I found that some of the characters didn't ring true. Surely even baddies would hide their true feelings under a sad facade? Too many descriptions of inappropriate smiling and laughing - you'll see what I mean when you read it. However, don't let that put you off, as you'll enjoy the story if you ignore that. I will still look forward to the next one. Another little thing that does annoy me, though, which is a fault with many publishers - too much information on the back cover as to what's in the book. For heaven's sake, once I've read that, I hardly need to read the book! Less is more, guys!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars another winner from Rex Kusler 19 Mar 2012
By ratscat13 VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine Review (What's this?)
The latest adventure of the James and James Detective Agency.

Alice James and Jim Snow are off on another wild and wacky adventure in Las Vagas (they could only make em that weird there!).

This time Alice discovers she has a half sister but before they have a chance to meet her half sister is kidnapped for ransom and it's down to Alice to talk to her dad about the ransom and for Jim and Alice to make the drop.

As usual for this pair nothing can be straightforward and they they end up looking into a mystery that takes them across Vegas and into some strange characters lives.

As easily written and read as the others and just as comical (not that I think all of it is intentional!) I love this series of books and am always happy to have another one to read.

They take no effort to finish (I polish them off in one sitting of a couple of hours) but for some slightly far fetched PI adventures then this is a series well worth a read!

3.0 out of 5 stars A fun light detective story set in Las Vegas 23 April 2012
By JoMaynard VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine Review (What's this?)
This is the second of these books I have read. Again it was a good light detective read, not too much blood and gore. It shows an interesting alternative side of Las Vegas to the one Tourists see.
I like the main characters, and in this story Alice ends up investigating what has happened to her own long lost half-sister.
Unfortunately I did guess part of the plot pretty much from the first. It is the third in the series, and I wondered if I had missed some crucial background because I hadn't read the second one.

It is a good read, ideal for holidays.

I don't like this book , I don't like the characters , it was all too weird the way the father behaved in the first chapters after what happened to his daughter , I could not get into it and I am affraid I had to give up , as too many good books out there that need reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rex Kusler has done it again 9 Jun 2012
By The Good Daughter VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine Review (What's this?)
This is the third in the series that I have read (I think there are only three so far) and once again I really enjoyed it. The central characters are very likeable and the style that they use in their investigations is an easy non-violent approach. They don't put themselves in life threatening situations which makes for less tension when you're just enjoying a good yarn. Again, this is a good story which although you kind of think you know who did it it does have a bit of a twist in the tale at the end. The relationship between James and James is very comfortable and I can't wait for the fourth book to see how it continues to develop. Would recommend this for anyone who likes a detective story but doesn't want to read bad language and violence on each turn of the page.

2.0 out of 5 stars Boring and badly written 21 April 2012
By Helen VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine Review (What's this?)
The cover looked great, the back jacket synopsis sounded exciting in a Janet Evanovich way, and I was so looking forward to a suspenseful page turning read. What happened??

This was boring and badly-written with no suspense, flat and lifeless characters, little plot, and a "spot it a mile off" denouement. I wanted to like the feisty-sounding Alice James and her sidekick, but there was nothing to make me care. The dialogue was stiff and stilted.

All-in-all this read like a self-published book (of the slightly better than usual variety) but still self-published so therefore possibly lacking any editorial input. The author has had a good idea, and there's probably potential here, but this is poorly-executed and disappointing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Brain Candy.......... 17 April 2012
By L. Hay VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine Review (What's this?)
Alice James and Jim Snow are ex-detecives who have formed a Private Detective Agency. Alice awaits the visit of a sister she did not know she had, then the sister is murdered.
We learn very little about the main characters in this novel and they appear to know very little about each other. Sadly they are the type of characters that we do not really care about getting to know. The villains are made known to us early on in the book so it doesn't do much that could be termed exciting.
It is the type of book that is ideal for reading on the train because you wouldn't really worry too much if you mislaid it. There is a lengthy description on the back cover which practically tells the entire story anyway. I have read worse but there are many books out there considerably better.
