Hieroglyphics And Other Stories Paperback – 26 Jan. 2004
Purchase options and add-ons
A beautiful collection - charming, witty and touching - these stories give voice to a variety of different characters: from the little girl who wants to look 'subtle' for her father's funeral, a child who has an email pen pal on Jupiter and an old lady who becomes a star through 'zimmerobics'.
Often writing in a vibrant Glaswegian vernacular, Donovan deftly gives her characters authenticity with a searing power, aided and abetted by tender subtlety.

In this collection of stories AD manages to give a vibrant voice to a host of different characters ranging from old ladies to children.
Some of the writing is in Glaswegian but that should not cause too many problems.
A good point of AD is that some of her stories are uplifting, optimistic and heartwarming which makes them all the better to read.
then you will want to read- and re-read- these stories for as long as your eyes can work!
Slainthe, El Rod.
