  • The dragon's mouth

    The Berlin Spreepark

    The dragon's mouth

At the Berlin Spreepark - a former amusement park in the heart of the capital - anyone who went on the roller coaster ride had to enter the dragon's mouth. This mouth was once the entrance to the tunnel through which ride went. Today, it's merely picturesque.

  • An iconic place

    The Berlin Spreepark

    An iconic place

This bridge has appeared in countless music videos, usually in association with themes of loneliness. It served as a backdrop for Berlin rapper Sido's film clip and also the German prime-time series "Good Times, Bad Times."

  • The Grand Canyon

    The Berlin Spreepark

    The Grand Canyon

The makers of the popular wild water ride, which opened in 1995, exaggerated just a bit when they named it Grand Canyon. Nowadays, little care is given to the ride, which has been neglected since 2001.

  • Lonely relics

    The Berlin Spreepark

    Lonely relics

This boat waits in vain for someone - anyone - to come along and use it. Once upon a time, the vessel used to circle the channels of the wild water ride all day long. But since the park has closed, all the boat can do now is rust the time away.

  • Traces of destruction

    The Berlin Spreepark

    Traces of destruction

Back when rides were functioning, a worker would control the wild water ride form this small house. Since the park's closure, trespassers have broken in and vandalized the station.

  • A creepy giant

    The Berlin Spreepark

    A creepy giant

The ferris wheel was once the focal point of the Berlin Spreepark. Although the amusement park has long been closed, loud creaking squeaking noises can be heard sometimes when the wind pushes the wheel back to life. This creepy landmark is a great deterrent for park intruders.

  • From kiosk to derelict

    The Berlin Spreepark

    From kiosk to derelict

One can only guess what was once sold at the kiosk by the faded advertisements out front: ice cream and rolls of film for cameras that are now obsolete. Now it's a ramshackle hut.

  • Overgrown

    The Berlin Spreepark

    Overgrown

For many years, the Berlin amusement park's lawns haven't been mowed and its bushes haven't been trimmed. Much like a jungle, the plants and animals can live undisturbed - and that in middle of the city!

  • Dangerous crossing

    The Berlin Spreepark

    Dangerous crossing

Crossing this bridge is probably something trespassers don’t even dare. The next person who does will likely be the last.

  • Decaying scenery

    The Berlin Spreepark

    Decaying scenery

After German reunification in 1990, an old style English village was built in the Berlin Spreepark. In the middle, there was a circus tent where magicians entertained their audiences. The tent is long gone, but the decaying village still stands - though probably not for much longer.

  • A mini face-lift

    The Berlin Spreepark

    A mini face-lift

What visitors could have bought for 10 cents in the old English village is now a mystery. But in any case, the 2011 British-German action thriller "Hanna" was filmed here, for which the facades of the buildings were repainted.

  • A new purpose

    The Berlin Spreepark

    A new purpose

The swan boat served its purpose, but is now retired. Now it has a new job: being a natural pot plant for blossoming wild flowers. At least for the swan, life goes on.
