Learning by Ear

Learning by Ear is now available as podcast!

Learning by Ear is the Deutsche Welle’s new multimedia learning program for the African continent. In these podcasts you can listen to the DW’s radio dramas and feature series about politics and society, health and social issues, economy and environment as well as general knowledge.

Political Education and Participation

Politics does not only mean parliament and government. Political participation begins at home! To commit oneself to one’s own neighborhood can make the difference. More and more Africans are joining the quest for a better Africa. Experience more with themes such as civil society, migration and political participation with DW’s Series and radio dramas.

Health and Social Issues

Almost two million Africans become infected with the AIDS-Virus each year. Malaria kills almost one million Africans every year. Both diseases are easily preventable.

Learning by Ear wishes to put an end to the ignorance about the AIDS-Virus and Malaria. We give advice on family planning and we explain how to avoid unwanted pregnancy and sexual transmitted diseases. The programs are made to be entertaining and informative.

Economy and Environment

If you want to know how society works or how globalization impacts Africa, then don’t miss our radio dramas about economy. Africa contributes very little to climate change but feels neverthless the impacts. Learning by Ear explores the relationship between people and the environment in Africa. We talk about desertification, deforestation and overfishing- we present the problems and the solutions.

General Knowledge

We explain how computers and internet work. An aid to all those who would like to work around computer science. In other series we provide information about the worlds of academia and mass media. Learning by Ear takes the listener on a journey through everyday life: the world around us is full of wonders that no one notices. And finally we learn more about the history of Africa...
